Today, looking at quilt inspirations, I was led to this site, and was moved to tears. A background story is here. Thinking of our own friends and neighbors from south of the border, how must they feel knowing that over 3,000 people - with loved ones, family, friends, talents, dreams - have died in the desert since 2000, in the Arizona Sector alone, trying for a better life?
U.S. policy has made so many of these people's homelands deadly for them and their children. As things ratchet up to even uglier levels with immigration policies, we as artists of all disciplines can address these issues in our art. See the links under the video, and find out more about the Migrant Quilt Project where you can see quilts from each year since 2000. There are exhibits in various parts of the country this year.
