New York Times article: Chinese-Americans face a double threat. Not only grappling with how to avoid the virus, they are contending with racism in the form of verbal and physical attacks. Asian-Americans from Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, face threats, lumped together with Chinese-Americans by a bigotry that doesn't know the difference. 20+ Asian-Americans across the country said they were afraid: to go shopping, to travel on subways, to let their children go outside. Many were yelled at, a sudden hate spasm reminiscent of that faced by American Muslims after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
But unlike in 2001, when George W. Bush urged tolerance of American Muslims, this time President Trump is using language that Asian-Americans say is inciting racist attacks.Trump and his Republican allies call it “the Chinese virus,” rejecting the World Health Organization’s guidance.
