Some Good News Out of Kentucky

Democratic Govenor Beshear canned the KY Board of Education filled with Bevin cronies and appointed new members by executive decision on his 1st day,  removing Commissioner Wayne Lewis.  (some former members are suing him), 

Over his roughly 18 months leading the department, Lewis oversaw several major developments:

• The roll-out of the state's new school accountability system;
• The passage of new graduation requirements for high school students;
• A push to recruit more teachers, including through dropping the requirement that Kentucky teachers earn their master's degrees

He threatened disciplinary action against those who continued to push for the sickouts that shut down JCPS six times earlier this year.

Lewis tried to take over Jefferson County Public Schools to institute charter schools in the largest and wealthiest county in the state; JCPS teachers’ union is the strongest in the state.
