"The Education Commission of the States posted a lineup of the partisan divide among the states: 33 have Republican governors. The GOP controls 66 partisan chambers, compared to 30 held by Dems, and they pick up three legislative chambers. This means that a large number of states will look favorably on school choice, which Trump has described as his highest priority. There is an all-out federal assault on public schools. The model is Race to the Top. The Department of Education could bundle $20 billion and dangle it before states as a competition, with eligibility dependent on laws permitting vouchers to religious schools and for-profit charters, even home schooling. Friends and allies of public education, a cornerstone of our democracy for nearly 200 years, must organize and resist. Join the Network for Public Education as we fight to defend public schools against privatization."
