Though Donald is constantly Twittering, we've heard little from him about conditions in Puerto Rico, after earthquakes destroyed homes, forced many people into shelters or to sleeping outdoors; power is out in 1/3 of the island. 100's were staying in shelters in the island’s SW region as Trump declared an emergency. The hardest hit was Guánica; 200 people had taken shelter in a gymnasium then were forced to sleep outside.
Among them was 80-year-old Lupita Martínez, who sat in the dusty parking lot with her 96-year-old husband by her side. He was sleeping in a makeshift bed, a dark blue coat covering him. “There’s no power. There’s no water. There is nothing. This is horrible,” Martínez said.
The couple was alone, lamenting that their caretaker had disappeared and was not answering their calls. Their children in the mainland urged them to move there.
