What if populists are not supporters of "deplorables" but of the People?  What if the real political divide isn't Left vs. Right, but Populists representing the People vs. non-Populists representing the elite 1%? Historically, many of the things Populists supported, progressive taxation, votes for women, ending the gold standard, came to pass under Populist reforms like Teddy Roosevelt.

Frank begins with the largely-forgotten Populist political party. The Populist, or People’s Party, founded in Kansas in the early 1890s, was the last serious effort to form a national third party.
