A creative nonfiction essay about the intersection of faith, family and a community's historical violence against indigenous peoples and its role in slavery. The essay explores efforts to reconcile faith and family with the writer's hometown role in the murder of native Americans as well as that community's role in the slave trade and the Underground Railroad.
