City is sinking approximately 1-2mm each year on average, worsening effects of sea level rise and flooding threat.  New York City is sinking in part due to the extraordinary weight of its vertiginous buildings, worsening the flooding threat posed to the metropolis from the rising seas, new research has found.

This is a worse condition in the short term, and completely unfixable. Only seawalls and retreats from the coasts will make a significant difference, though wave-breakers can help a little.
