Lujan: "Putting Children in Cages is not American"
NMAG Balderas announced Thursday that he won't run for NM's 2020 Senate seat, leaving a blank primary slate but clearing a path for Rep. Ben Ray Lujan and possibly newly elected Rep. Haaland. Lujan has said he's consulting with his family and supporters about getting into the race. Lujan stepped up to the No. 4 partisan leadership post in the House after Democrats won back majority control of the chamber in the midterm elections. The six-term Hispanic congressman has a federal campaign account with $380,000 and experience in fundraising and politicking as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that helps elect Democrats nationally. Lujan has the backing of The Latino Victory Fund, a Washington-based political committee with multimillion-dollar resources seeking greater Hispanic representation in government.
