Bob Scott has spent decades as a public servant, holding a variety of offices during those many years, each of which required that he take an oath of office. When it came time for him to take the oath of office for his second term as Mayor of Franklin, NC, he decided to do things a little differently this time around, specifically, regarding which book he would hold in his hand as he took the oath. “We do not represent any religion, what we represent are the laws of the land. As far as I’m concerned, there is no place in government for religion. I’m a secularist in that respect. I just don’t think there’s a place for any kind of religious doctrine in government, because we represent everybody.”
