Despite the fact that most of the US corporations that have plants or offices in Puerto Rico dotted all over the 140-mile X 40-mile island, and that many of them have working phones and internet thanks to emergency continuity plans that include generators and satellite phone and wifi links, none have offered to share this capability with locals desperate to contact relatives for help or to assure them of their safety.
Many of these companies like Medtronic, Univision, Destilería Serrallés (makers of Don Q Rum), DowDuPont, AstraZeneca, Merck, Industrias Vassallo, Puerto Rico Iron Works, Walmart, and banking firms like Triple-S Management and First Bancorp, certainly have such satellite services. Why aren't they making them available, especially given the PR-potential such relatively low-cost community assistance would offer?
