Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) defended the House’s Benghazi investigation, saying it would continue after an overly candid remark from Majority Leader and presumptive future Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) caused Democrats to redouble their criticism of the probe. Boehner sought to calm the waters with a statement arguing that the Select Committee on Benghazi was created to investigate the 2012 attacks on American diplomatic outposts in Libya, not Hillary Clinton, as Democrats claim and McCarthy himself seemed to suggest in an interview Tuesday night with Fox News.
