Gore Calls for Exxon Mobil Inquiry on Climate Change

Former Vice President Al Gore said on Tuesday that there should be an investigation into Exxon Mobil over what he said was the oil company’s misleading the public about the risks of climate change. Echoing the views of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the onetime presidential candidate and current environmental activist and investor said that Exxon’s actions were similar to those of the tobacco industry in the 1980s, when it denied that smoking could cause health problems. While Exxon’s chief executive, Rex W. Tillerson, was not in charge of the company four decades ago, he famously said at a shareholder meeting two years ago, “What good is it to save the planet if humanity suffers?” Gore said that he “did not even know where to begin in responding to that.”
