Great article on achieving goals. "In deciding on our most fundamental values and priorities in life, we need a benchmark  by which to measure the quality of our judgments. The first thing that comes to mind is that winning the game of life means achieving your goals. According to this view, everything that happens comes about because of cause-effect relationships that repeat and evolve over time. By understanding these cause-effect relationships, you can come up with decision rules (or principles) for achieving what you want: 1st,  we figure out what this network looks like. 2nd, we pick our goal. 3rd, we consult the book of reality to see which ‘ifs’ cause this ‘then’. 4th we investigate how to bring about these ‘ifs’. 5th, we execute the plan."In a very different essay, Charles Chu cites tech theorist Tom Chatfield who, in How to Thrive in the Digital Age
