This first appeared on Counter Punch on Fidel's last birthday. I missed it then, but fortunately discovered it in the reams of writings about him now. Great Articles are worth reading whenever I come across them. This one even agrees with my impression of the young Fidel's audacity and blind luck - plus faith in his own destiny, of course.
In a failure, it would be called 'chutzpah'. When it turns out to be a roaring success, then we fall back on 'audacity and luck'. In an earlier Age, he would have been considered Chosen by the Gods, just as Alexander the Great was. But, unlike Alexander, or Julius Caesar, Fidel died at home at the age of 90. That is surely proof that he was lucky!
