Secret side agreements are common corporate law firm maneuvers. Here’s how they work. An agreement that's legal & passes the smell test is drafted for public consumption. Then, a separate, secret side agreement is written and signed by both sides and it contains all of the smelly, shady, ethically questionable hard details on how the original agreement will be carried out.
The Clinton camp attempts to defend itself by saying the terms are standard because they were not going to kick in until the Dem Party had chosen its official presidential nominee at its July 2016 party convention. But that’s not what the actual secret side agreement says Clinton would have joint authority over strategic decisions over the staffing, budget, expenditures, and general election related communications, data, technology, analytics, and research.
