Current science says coronavirus immunity only lasts 3 to 12 months — which may throw a wrench in the vaccine plan.

This comes on top of news that the most common current Covid strain is not the original one, so immunity might not carry over.

No virus with only annual immunity has ever been eliminated from the human population, e.g. Smallpox was eliminated due to vaccines that conferred lifetime immunity, from a shot that was given once in infancy, and even that took decades to reach everyone in the world at the time.

If true, this will only add to vaccine hesitancy. The best defense may remain consistent low viral exposure and recurring immunological response, plus general health boosts such as vitamins C & D, weight control and exercise.
