Kamala Harris is running for president as a progressive, but as attorney general of California, she criminalized truancy — making it a crime for kids to be late for school and dragging into the criminal justice system even more disproportionately low-income, predominantly black and Latino families. She’s overlooked the misconduct of her prosecutors and fought to uphold their wrongfully secured convictions. She defended California’s choice to deny gender reassignment surgery to a transgender inmate, and in 2014, she appealed a federal judge’s holding that the death penalty was unconstitutional.

Harris’s choices are thrown in a more unflattering light when compared to the relatively short tenure of Philly DA Larry Krasner, who, in his first week,  fired 31 prosecutors who weren’t committed to his reforms.

I recall when Kamala Harris was being pushed up the ladder during the campaign, all of the voices I recognized as progressive in California were virulently against her because she was 'FOR SALE', as are most women.

Where this is leading is that, when the next war begins, we will determine our side by looking in the mirror.

I didn't say 'all', rather 'most', which can be read as 51%.

IMO, 51% would reflect a generous percentage.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I misread, Ken. Sorry. You're probably right. Just looking at our so-called 'leadership,' the same odds likely apply to men, as well.

It's the American Way. Capitalism is in our soul.

In this regard, women are no different from us men. A difference is a man will put a top priority on gaining wealth as a way to get women; many women who gain wealth no longer 'need' a man.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

Regarding the context of the article: Does anyone actually believe there exists even one politician of either gender who will not sell out, willingly or not.

Harris said allowing persons not eligible to work in the United States was a mistake, and subsequently modified the program to bar anyone who could not legally be employed in the United States. Unless she's changed her position as many political puppets do, it would appear she would be in favor of this wall as most likely many thousands are entering our nation daily who will not become legally eligible to work in our country. Most who are pushed up the ladder so rapidly are puppets. BEWARE

She is very much an "establishment Democrat" but I wouldn't even associate her with Bernie "Sanders-type" thinking. I think Bernie Sanders is much more progressive...

Kamala Harris is barely a liberal. She is certainly not a progressive. Her deliberate and active decision to not prosecute Steven Mnuchin's unethical and likely fraudulent efforts to push homeowners into foreclosure, is an exceptional example that pointedly disqualifies her from being a liberal, let alone a progressive.

But she, like many of her contemporaries, is not shy about her political aspirations. After all, if Barack Obama could become president with virtually no political experience, why shouldn't she?

Rob, thanks for your article post. Kamala Harris is at best a cosmetic liberal.

"You might be mistaking me for someone who gives a s(hoot)" was a favorite comeback of an old Marine friend of mine.

How is this different?:

'Her deliberate and active decision to not prosecute Steven Mnuchin's unethical and likely fraudulent efforts to push homeowners into foreclosure...'

Steven, you have punched through to the core of this apple; Kamala's non-action speaks volumes.

"Kamala Harris is at best a cosmetic liberal."

To this Californian's mind, Kamala Harris is a comedic liberal, as well.

Great talker and she's gonna fool a helluva lot of people in this country.

Don't care anymore...

The latest news is that Senator Harris has her tip in the ringer because she apparently has been informed that the MEDICARE FOR ALL mantra will require a lot of tweaking (cost cutting).

Of course, a trillion or two in additional revenue would go a good way in solving the problem.

I accept all that commenters here are saying about Kamala Harris, including her being a 'cosmetic' liberal. I do not pay too much attention to individual politicians. But I have to admit, when watching the confirmation hearings of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and watching and listening to Harris, I was quite impressed. Janet, she was a great talker/questioner and she had me fooled. I am, or I should say was, an example of what you said about her fooling people. Thanks to you and others commenting I consider myself to now be de-fooled. Maybe there is still hope for me... :)
