A Nobel Prize for Denying Genocide (Insights from Peter Maass)

Maass:

In the early 1990s, I covered the Bosnia war, reporting on the Serb-run concentration camps where thousands of Muslims were tortured or killed. I  reported on the Serb siege of Sarajevo, which endured for more than 3 years.

Last month, the settled question of what happened in Bosnia was reopened when the Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded to Peter Handke, an Austrian who for decades has denied the genocide. I’ve written several stories on the controversy but the latest one is, I think, the most shocking: Two Nobel jurors, during their deliberations, were duped by a bizarre conspiracy theory that downplays Serb atrocities.

A lot of truths are under assault these days; The Intercept’s reporting shows how the Nobel Prize organization has become part of this trend. Handke is scheduled to accept his Nobel, and nearly $1 million in award money, on December 10 in Stockholm.

Actually the so-called genocide in Bosnia is not a "settled issue". What is a fact is that the US err...NATO conducted an illegal bombing campaign against Yugoslavia 24/7 for over 70 days without UNSC authorization. That was a war crime.

Yugoslavia was the last socialist country in Eastern Europe after the breakup of the USSR. The Clinton administration conducted a regime change operation and broke up Yugoslavia in order to advance NATO eastward.

Stephen Karganovic of the Srebrenica Historical Project has published many articles on OEN on this subject. HERE is his author's page.

You and many others have succumbed to another US propaganda program to cover up a regime change project by the Clinton/Albright..."it was worth it"... administration.

Kosovo is now the site of the largest and most expensive US military base built in Europe since the 1970's...Camp Bondsteel.

David, thank you for your generally insightful comment.

I must state one thing for sure, and that is that you as a Senior Editor here at OEN should most certainly know: that posting an OpEdNews quick link only means that I found the article interesting, that I am not concurring with the substance of the article or the 900 character statement from it, written by a Senior Editor at the Intercept (not by me), and certainly NOT that I had "succumbed to another American propaganda program."

A fine point but one that must be made. I sometimes grow weary of the propensity of OEN readers to assume that publishing a quick link is the same as being a proponent of the points in the article, but I never thought a Senior Editor here would conclude that I have given in or succumbed to Clinton Era propaganda.

In my case, that would be quite preposterous!

Dear Stephen,

I apologize and rescind the statement that "you succumbed", lumping you personally with the many people who have. It was an assumption I should not have made based only on your posting a quicklink.

Sincerely,

David
