This was a pretty rough week. The hard drive on our server started dying on Thursday and by Sunday, it was dead and OpEdNews was completely down. Not even emails tied to it worked. Our server company took about 12 hours to acquire a replacement hard drive. It took another ten or so hours to add the control panel and restore our data.
That cost a lot-- in lost ad revenues, lost content no submitted and the cost of many hours of programming hours to fix things. In addition, it revealed to us that our existing back-up plan, while it worked, was inadequate. We can't afford to be down for a full day. So we're going to have to add to our server, hardware, at a cost of $1860 a year. So we really need your help to catch up and pay these additional expenses.
