An article in the latest Humane Activist newsletter carried a warning about an appointment that could potentially be made by a President Donald Trump. Donald Trump(Sr.) admits to not knowing much about hunting or the great outdoors. He's stated that those issues are left to his son, Donald Jr., who is in charge of the campaign's outreach to "sportsmen".
Petersen's Hunting magazine published an interview (January last) wherein Junior indicated an interest in serving as Secretary of the Interior if his father were to be elected. He stated, "Between my brother and myself, no one understands the issues better than us. No one in politics lives the lifestyle more than us." Indeed, the brothers are notorious for their shameless trophy hunting, with published photos as proof. Leopards, water buffalo, crocks and the tail from an elephant have been proudly displayed to verify their conquests. What is meant by "the lifestyle" is he and Eric using their inherited wealth to travel the world in search of rare and exotic animals to kill, and then remove body parts for their own warped gratification.
Having someone with this kind of "lifestyle" in charge of the U.S. Interior would be the ultimate case of the ol' fox guarding the hen house. An individual in this position is responsible for millions of acres of federal lands (wonder how quickly they'd become public), wildlife laws, conservation, and importation of wildlife parts and trophies. Anyone concerned with the protection of wildlife and wilderness needs to be aware of what having a Trump administration could mean. Many of the hard fought for policies currently in effect could be dismantled, leaving both animals and the environment vulnerable to trophy hunters here and around the world.
