Sam was the biggest kid in the neighborhood, so the
others followed him. He imagined he was Superman. He wore a towel for a cape,
tucked in at his neck, and carried a big stick. Once, Sam
and friends, wandering in the woods, came upon some bee hives. There were a lot
of hives and a billion bees! Sam
didn't need any more honey. He had lots of honey at home and he was getting fat
from eating too much already. But he decided he wanted their honey and he'd
have some fun poking the hives. So he hit one hive hard, knocking it down. A
couple scout bees buzzed him. One landed on his cape, crawled onto his neck and
stung him! He thought "Damn' these bees, they're stepping on Superman's cape!" So
he knocked down a couple more hives, destroying one entirely. The bees swarmed.
But Sam didn't stop. He was stung
again and again! He was getting hot, sweaty and hoarse from thrashing around
and yelling. The bees died when they stung Sam,
but each hurt and injected a little more poison into him. Would Sam ever get smart enough to stop poking their hives?
