Susan Titus Glascoff is a lifetime activist re assorted topics.  Innocently at ten her persistence got her teacher fired -falsely accused her of cheating in math.  Ironic -she taught math & got masters in it!  She helped establish a child abuse hotline in VA, fueled by fact her mother taught emotionally disturbed kids.  When youngest son (of 3) was 5, she persuaded two others to run for school board. They defeated three incumbents and got budget passed for first time in eight years. She prepared a report, "Would you like the public to vote on YOUR salary (report also suggested reducing class size for k-3, showing it paid for itself, etc.). She sent it to school boards, etc. across the country.  Due to her activism Sarah Lawrence College invited her to get a masters in Health Advocacy.  Her thesis- "Severely Defective Newborns, Whether to Treat or Not." The director requested permission to use it elsewhere.  The ending quoted a famous pediatrician- "If I have treated 1,000 severely defective newborns and have managed to get one to live a somewhat normal life, oh my God what have I done to the other 999?" She's spoken at conferences and written about end-of-life care for all ages, urging more palliative care.  She had a major project confronting fraud re new papsmear technology.  After she got divorced from a high-powered lawyer, she wrote an extensive legal reform report, (sent to ~ 250  including then-Sen.Obama, who wrote back agreeing "family courts sometimes hurt more than help") touching on several issues, but focusing on how legal system hurts children.  It included 10 noted authors who contributed letters for ideas.  She had also joined the National Coalition for Family Justice, founding their advisory board for public outreach. Its president said- "Abusive custody is best-kept secret in the U.S."  Ever since she has coordinated with many activists and separately contacted broad array of sources re fact our legal system has increasingly become Who CAN Win Versus What Is Fair, no matter the topic, especially when there's power imbalance, worst when hurts kids. 99% "refuse to know," despite ~7 documentaries (1st 1997), conferences, books, meetings with members of the House & Senate & judges ( recent meeting at a Supreme Court office), ETC., but OPED NEWS is rising to the challenge!
