Why I Was Among Eight Health Care Advocates to Get Arrested in the Senate Yesterday The Senate Finance Committee is excluding single payer advocates from their hearings. They only want to hear from the insurance industry, HMO's and pharmaceuticals -- the corporations that caused the health care crisis. As a result, yesterday eight of us protested by telling the truth in the senate. We were all arrested but hopefully, a new phase of the movement for a real national health plan has started.

Torture Accountability Requires the People to Demand It The Attorney General is considering a special prosecutor to investigate torture. People who want torture accountability need to increase their activity. A full investigation that excludes no one including policy makers in the White House is needed. The Department of Justice must follow the law and appoint a independent prosecutor to ensure the rule of law is followed. Anything less further undermines DOJ's credibility.

The only people that will profit from these proposals are the insurance industry. The necessities of the people will not be met. Does Obama have any political courage?

But, is this the debate Americans needed? Do we need to candidates that agree to such a large degree on all the key issues facing the country from the bailout to militarism?

Can Congress stop an attack on Iran? Yes, in fact it has the constitutional power to do so, but probably will be silently complicit and allow the Iraq War to expand into a Mid-East War.

The Democrats Want the Peace Movement to Work for Them; The Peace Movement Needs to Demand the Democrats End the War The Democrats want to enlist the anti-war movement in their efforts to elect more Democrats but they are not willing to use the power they currently have to end the war. In 2004 many in the peace movement made the mistake of buying into the "Anybody But Bush" rhetoric. This year we should insist the Democrats end the war if they want the peace vote.
