David McBain wants people to read his articles and blogs. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1948, one month before the start of the National Health Service (NHS UK) and fears now that he will outlive its usefulness to future generations. That, along with the constant threat to much of the social progress that ordinary people achieved in the last century, concerns him - and he wants to share his thoughts with others.

Scotland Decides, but is Nationalism the Answer to a Supranational Problem? Whatever Scotland decides to do this coming Thursday, 18th September, there won't be much economic wriggle-room and that means there can be no real democratic power. In the absence of any real democratic power, Scotland's best hope for an optimum quality of life lies in our ability to work together on the local level regardless of whether we choose Westminster's or Brussels' rule.

Scottish Independence is Pointless Unless it Includes Independence From the Banksters and the Corporations What’s the point of Scottish independence when the central banks and multinational corporations have so much power over and the nation states? Scotland’s independence referendum is to be held in September this year. Already the politicos and pundits have the dog-and-pony show in full swing. It’s okay as light entertainment goes, but what’s the point? Is there any such thing as national sovereignty any more?

There's Talk of Overhauling the NSA, but Only We the People Can Bring about Real Change A police officer in the USA wearing a Guy Fawkes mask; Italian police taking off riot helmets to join the ranks of protesters, now that a judge has called the NSA "Stasi-like." It's little wonder President Obama is discussing an overhaul of the NSA. Hmm.

National Sovereignty in a Corporate World Where corporate bosses can compel, for any reason, elected politicians to follow their diktat ignoring their electorate, the term 'national sovereignty' seems an oxymoronic anachronism.

The Eternal Dangers to Democracy of Corporate Power The latest (along with a little history) in the eternal attack of corporate power on democracy manifests in the Nissan boss' thinly veiled threat this morning to punish the British people if they dare vote in a referendum to exit the EU.

China Gets Contracts For UK Nuclear Power First it was Chinese goods; now Chinese banks are moving in on the UK - which mightn't be a bad thing considering the state of western banking. Now we hear that China is to take control of UK's nuclear. This week UK politicos were in Beijing toadying to Chinese bigwigs. Maybe the intention is that it'll help extricate democracy from the Globalist stranglehold. On the other hand, maybe it isn't.

Official - Edward Snowden Has Single-handedly Endangered the British People Is MI5 there to protect the UK public, or to protect the banks and such ilk? The new head of UK's domestic-spying organisation was talking to the BBC earlier this week about the damage Edward Snowden has done to our safety and security. Should we put our complete trust in these clandestine organisations that need to know every little thing we say and do, yet slap the classified stamp on everything they do?

"Bongo-Bongo Land" - the Democratic Question Decent people would agree that we should all do what we can to share the earth's bounty fairly with all peoples of the world. Yet, too often unelected elite cronies seem able to channel public money in ways that furthers their own purposes. If taxpayers' money is to be used for things such as overseas aid, is it not incumbent on us all to take more interest in the way the elite are channelling our squeezed resources?

Just Because I'm Paranoid Doesn't Mean There Is No Threat to Democracy We've seen the Greek and Italian heads of state replaced by revolving-door-type technocrats. We've seen an Egyptian president replaced recently by military coup. Myriad ways, we've seen democracy undermined and postponed to favour things deemed more pressing by conventional wisdom. Some things might be 'too big to fail' but democracy, apparently, isn't one of them.

Surveillance - Surprise Is the Most Surprising Thing Time after time, we catch our authorities deceiving us. We do nothing, mainly because most of the time it seems that others are in the firing line. They say that what they do is for our own good, and we believe them. That's convenient. Yet everyone seems surprised when inevitably our democratic complacency leads to abuses of power.

Reckless Bankers and Rotting Fish Heads It seems some bankers are to be jailed for reckless conduct in the UK in future. Calling for a new criminal offence to deal with "reckless conduct in the management of a bank," with automatic prison sentences a Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards wants senior bankers to take more responsibility for their actions. On the other hand, someone was reminding us that fish rot from the head.

A Better Way for the Children We've heard much about 'big government, small government'. Some things the establishment insists they do on our behalf (just as long as we don't send the bill to the tax havens). Other things they deem not to be their responsibility. But are there hidden aspects to the proposed development of our children to which we should be more aware?

Thatcherism More Strategy Than Ideology Thatcherism wasn't so much ideology, but more part of an ongoing strategy. Regardless who had nominal power at that time they'd only have been able to function were they amenable to the diktat of the same unelected, oligarchic clique that controls the political agenda today.

UK Defence Secretary Wants to Cut Welfare Not Defence When did the UK government last use the military for defence? For all we know the UK establishment might be more inclined to use the military, in a defensive capacity, against its own people than to defend against marauding foreign invaders.

Looters, Rioters, Bankers, Petitioners and the Rest of Us The question of how we deal with the recent riots and looting in the UK, and the underlying causes, isn't about how we can up the ante with more such divisive behaviour. It's about a sociological drift back to better values, starting from within each individual.

Did The American People Lose Their Triple-A Credit Rating or Was It Stolen? Some people have some nerve - it's no doubt the very same people responsible for the calamity, who are sticking triple-A labels on their victims and, as abusers often do, blaming them for their own suffering. But I believe that at last, they're rumbled. Have you noticed that people will listen now when you point out the culprits? I have.
