Requiem for a Free Press in the US: Where Did the Tradition of Journalists Speaking Truth to Power Go? There's a lot of news available in the US, but not a lot of real news of any critical importance to understanding what's going on, writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff. A letter or resignation from NBC News by veteran reporter William Arkin shows why.

Trump's new acting Pentagon Secretary Patrick Shanahan: Keep Walking, Nothing Important to See Here Don't expect any Pentagon budget accountability, much less auditability, under Trump acting Sec. of 'Defense' Patrick Shanahan, writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff. This is the guy who joked that the Pentagon failed its first outside audit because it expected to fail.

Credit where credit's due: Trump Does Something Right for Once The media, Congress and the military are up in arms because Trump is calling for an end to US military intervention in Syria. What gives? asks TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff. It's the first good thing Trump has done and he's being called a traitor for it from right and left?

It's not too early to be thinking about punishment: Making Trump and Other Climate Criminals Pay Trump and his White House gang are prime destroyers of the planet, actively sagotaging efforts to delay rampaging climate change and global heating. It's time to start thinking about the appropriate way to punish them -- especially President Trump -- for this existential crime writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff, who thinks he found the answer.

Reagan, Clinton and Tip O'Neill were retirement thieves: Demand an End to the Taxation of Social Security Benefits Social Security has been badly cut for many elderly and disabled by the 'reform' for taxing benefits introduced first in '83 by Reagan and Congressional Democrats and then by President Clinton. It's time to fix that by ending taxation of benefits, the way FDR set the program up. Basta! writes ThisCantBeHappening! journalist Dave Lindorff

Provisional ballots: It's All About Vote Suppression Republican attacks on the counting of provisional and absentee ballots are just an attack on the right to vote. Election Special: Many Rural Citizens Vote Against Their Own Medicaid in Federal and State Elections Here's a paradox, writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff in Tarbell.org: voters in the same rural communities that are uniquely reliant upon Medicaid for their health care consistently vote for Republican state and national candidates who want to slash Medicaid (and Medicare and Social Security).

Scare-Mongering is the Only Thing Trump and Republicans Have Got The right-wing media and Donald Trump are making a crazy scare story out of a sad bunch of desperate Honduran refugees, pretending a bunch of poor young men and women and their little kids are about to "invade" America bringing rapists, killers and dangerous disease to our shores, writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff. We should be offering them help, not armed troops.

Media circulation/ratings obsession drives computer voting: Why Do We Even Have Voting Machines? Why are we using machines to vote when they're costly, hackable, break down and don't have a paper trail? Because the media love them since they give instant results, writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff. That's as lousy a reason as turning in a story before it's done to beat the competion. We need paper ballots for honest elections.

Not all bad as 'boofing' Brett sullies SOTUS: Kavanaugh on the High Court will be a Source of Ridicule If we're going to have 5 Trogs on SOTUS, at least it's good to have another, along with Thomas, who is an object of ridicule, Boofing Bart fills that role well and will help degrade the conservative court and its rulings, writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff, so start wailing on him.

A confirmation hearing is a job interview, not a trial: Candidates for Judgeships Have No 'Presumption of Innocence' The right argues Kavanaugh deserves a 'presumption of innocence' but his hearing is not a trial, it's a job interview and as any US worker knows, you get no such presumption when you apply for a job, or even a right to confront references who trash you, writes TCBH! journalist Dave LIndorff
