As a society of voyeurs, we are addicted to the so-called "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." As citizens, however, we must resist the impulse. Mitt Romney is a great example of why. We need leaders despite how much wealth they have earned -- or not -- can identify with real people, living real lives, facing real challenges. And this is NOT Mitt Romney . . .

Romney, Ryan and the Republicans are giving a tribute to Ron Paul in Tampa and still claiming that they are better for Israel than Obama. It simply does not pass the smell test.

As John Adams noted a long time ago, "Facts are stubborn things . . ." Closer to our time, there was Ronald Reagan's "Facts are stupid things." Sad to report, the way things stand today, Reagan is closer to the truth than Adams. Herein, we present some hard, fast facts on employment and the economy which hopefully can be used to counter the dreck broadcast by FOX . . .

One of the most daunting problems in America is that tens upon tens of millions of people do not see that they have "skin in the game" -- that they have a vested interest in what is being planned, proposed and passed in their name. Historically, self-interest has always been a key ingredient to progress.

According to physicists, even if there is no one to hear it, a tree falling in the forest does make a sound. Question: if the president speaks a great truth which few understand (like characterizing the Ryan budget as "social Darwinism") does it matter? Can anyone hear -- let alone understand -- it?

Come November, Floridians will be voting on a change in the state constitution. Although it is being pushed as a measure to further religious freedom, it is precisely the opposite -- a Trojan Horse meant to divert taxpayer dollars to religious institutions, especially parochial schools. Beware!

After yesterday's massacre at the Washington Navy Yard, there will no doubt be calls for greater gun controls which in turn, will be blunted by the NRA. At the same time, they support any and all measures to thwart acts of terror. Question is, when is a terrorist attack not a terrorist attack?

Historically, we are a nation of "kvetchers" -- of groaners and complainers. Whether its complaints over taxes, tea or now light bulbs, we always manage to find something that galls us. The latest flap over florescent-vs-incandescent light bulbs is a prime example. It is such a "serious" issue that it has even led Michelle Bachmann to become "pro-choice!"

At no time since America's Gilded Age has this country had such a wide and glaring gap between the hyper-wealthy and the rest of us. The 400 wealthiest families made on average, $345 million apiece in 2009 and had an effective tax rate of just 16.6%. Meanwhile, the Republicans push for even greater tax cuts. As the middle class succumbs, we become nothing more than beggars at the banquest.
