Jim Miles is a Canadian educator and analyst who examines the world through a syncretic lens. His analysis of international and domestic geopolitical ideas and actions incorporates a lifetime of interest in current events, a desire to preserve and conserve our natural environment and stop the commodification of the environment. He has been active as a critical writer in opposition to the US empire and its militarization of most aspects of domestic and international affairs. Miles' work has been published globally and has appeared on a variety of websites including Palestine Chronicle, Axis of Logic, Countercurrents, and Global Research. He has appeared on RT News and The Tyee concerning events in Palestine/Israel.

SHARE Thursday, April 14, 2011 U.S. power in the Indian Ocean littoral
An interesting read that attempts to define the situation within the Indian Ocean region and its littoral countries. Kaplan arises at some intersting sub-themes, perhaps unwittngly, but significant nevertheless.

A copy of a recent Dan Rather column in which he writes very much like Thomas Friedmann through U.S. rose-coloured glasses... and my response to it.

Is history repeating itself? Not exactly, and not yet, but the same stupid cast of characters seems to be rising to the occasion.
SHARE Sunday, November 18, 2007 Treacherous Alliance - Book Review
With chaos becoming more and more evident in the broader Middle East, Parsi's "Treacherous Alliance" is a strong background read on the political processes between Israel, Iran, and the United States.
SHARE Sunday, July 20, 2008 Marching Toward Hell - Book Review
The shackles of oil and Israel, the elitist ignorance of the American government, the antagonism of the Muslim world supported by the predictions and indictments of bin Laden have created a losing position for the Americans no matter what they attempt to do.

Foreign Policy magazine's forty year celebration includes a section on unconventional wisdom. Most of what it contains within is rather conventional wisdom for readers of alternate websites and viewers of alternate news media.
SHARE Friday, October 8, 2010 Canada and Israel - Building Apartheid
Yves Engler has written an excellent short history of Canada's support of the state of Israel, surpassing in intent if not financial aid that of the U.S.

A hot topic recently but one that has been around since the advent of nuclear weapons. Given current powers of the bomb and civilizational weak points, in the long term there will be no survivors if the war goes nuclear.

Canadian news media present the topics of global warming, Arctic sovereignty, the rendition of Maher Arar, and the housing market as separate items, yet they are all entangled within Canada's foreign policy.

The previous two articles looked at the economy and military as integrated items. The environments, now subordinate in the main media, is still a part of it all.

A summary of a presentation on environmental issues within the Palestinian context. Essentially it is a discussion of geopolitical issues affecting Palestine's ability to cope with the effects of climate change and the effects of Israeli erasure of the cultural landscape.

A book well worth reading after an interview well worth watching. The only drawback is an unfortunately written final letter to the globalist elite.
(1 comments) SHARE Saturday, June 26, 2021 Don't read this book - A critical reaction to "War: How Conflict Shaped Us"
"War: How Conflict Shaped Us" does not properly shape a thesis, does not provide any convincing support (which it cannot do if the thesis is missing or shallow), and does not in any way answer the suggestion of the title of how we are shaped by it. MacMillan has done much better, and I would not recommend this book for anyone other than to those looking for a grab bag of historical events scattered over time and space.
