Those who understand need to explain to those who don't. Society's greatest damage arises from individuals' desire for dominance, balanced only by constructive ideas. Relieving polarization Communication across differences is an ordinary experience. Many people with opposing ideas remain approachable. To make positive outcomes more likely, we can agree on guidelines that help us skirt familiar habits that block or sabotage an exchange. If someone's mind is closed, we can turn to another who is open who might influence them.

"If I had an army of activists, what would I do with it?" Democrats' basic resource lies in explaining the right thing to do, but good ideas need to reach others' thinking. By 2022, Democrats can have a super-majority committed to "the good of the whole" by steady personal outreach to Republicans. People "realize" differing ideas best by thoughtful conversation.

The Next Hill Election results indicate an urgent need for ordinary Democrats to upgrade their skills in communication and conversation, and connect with ordinary Republicans to develop a common viewpoint about national values.
