The Iran Deal: Who Can You Trust? There is a trust issue on the table. It's whether Iran should trust the United States to keep its pledge to lift sanctions permanently, as long as Iran keeps its end of the bargain by not pursuing nuclear weapons through a very-heavily inspected nuclear energy program.

On the Brink of Fascism in the U.S.: The Role of the Ruling Class, Part 1 As the legal and political walls close around him,Trump moves closer to establishing a 21st cent. version of fascism. But the political-economic system we know as fascism does not arrive out of history by itself. It is put in place by a capitalist ruling class that feels its political control slipping. This column is the first of a two-parter on how fascism might come to the U.S., courtesy of a wing of the U.S. ruling class.

Nikki Haley, Trump, Let the Govs. do It, and the Constitution, Part 2 This is Part 2 of a series on Gov./Amb/Pres. Nominee Wanna/be Nikki Haley. that considers her support for Pres. Trump's "let the Governors do it" for both testing and materials supply. In fact, the Constituion's Statement of Purpose, the Preamble, simply does not support this approach. A Postscript considers Trump's visit to a mask-making plant in Arizona during which he described the U.S. as "warriors" going into battle.

"Trump: The 'Shift' and the Ruling Class" Since he became the minority President, Trump has clearly changed course, on many of his important issues, especially those central to the interests of the economically dominant sector of the ruling class. This column outlines the essential elements of the "Trump Shift."

Fascism, the U.S. Ruling Class, and Trump The upcoming US election is primarily a battle between the two wings of the U.S. ruling class. One believes that the best way to maintain its control over the state apparatus is through a return to a set of democratic reforms, along the lines of an expanded "New Deal." The other is the wing that believes that its control can only be maintained through the imposition of fascism. It all revolves around the nature of the State.

"Marbury v. Madison" and its Constitutionality --- Revisited On several occasions previously I have published an excerpt from my 1996 "future history" book, "The 15% Solution," which presents a fascist government's Supreme Court decision overturning the famous "Marbury v. Madison" decision, which had established the Court's review powers of decisions of the other two branches of the Federal govt. In light of the recent highly controversial Court decisions, I offer it again here.

The Three Big Lies of 2022: Two Concern the Pandemic This column reviews the "The 3 Big Lies" of Trump/COVID era: 1. "The Election as Stolen;" 2. there is some kind of forced-no-way-out mass vaccination program in the U.S.; 3. the U.S. vaccination program is like the Holocaust. The first I (and many others) have dealt with elsewhere. For the 2nd, I explain what a "mandate" is and that in practice it means requirement-for-participation. For the 3rd, I describe the Holocaust.

A 9-11 Retrospective: Possible Explanations for the Behavior of Pres. George W. Bush, in re 9-11 As is well known, today is the 18th anniversary of the awful tragedy of 9-11, and subsequent events, including the War on Iraq, which would not have happened if it had not happened. They will linger with us for decades. I have written on this subject numerous times over the years. This column is a revisit to one on the subject that I originally published on a long-gone political website, "The Political Junkies," in 2004.

Trump and the Trumpublicans (tm): 'Look, Over There!' Trump and the Trumpublicans (tm) are trying hard to keep the focus of "Trump crimes investigations" on the outcome of the Mueller Report, which presents tons of evidence but comes to no conclusions, and on the Assange indictment, which, with a conviction could end the free press in the U.S. as we know it --- a major Trump objective. But a major objective of these foci is to keep attention away from Trump's financial crimes.

Jews for Hitler; Blacks (and other non-Whites) for Trump The title of this column might well be "Jews for Hitler? Why not Blacks [and other non-whites] for Trump." It is an update of a column on that history (published previously several times), addressing current Republican politics and the role of non-whites in it.

On the Road to Theocracy: The Hobby Lobby Decision In this case the Supreme Court, took on a power that I couldn't find anywhere in the Constitution. I did look hard for it and it must be in there somewhere, for the Republican Religious Right tells us that "God" and "Christian" are in it and I can't find them either. But since Fox"News" et al tell me that they are, they must be, no? And so SCOTUS has indeed filed an amendment, to be found at the end of this column.

Tara Reade and the Sexual Assault Charge Against former Vice-President Biden: A Commentary Ms. Tara Reade has lodged a charge of sexual assault against former V-P Biden. 1st, it should be fully investigated. 2nd, the V-P has attempted to initiate that investigation in the Senate files. Guess what? McConnell said "no way." 3rd, the Repubs. are screaming "Kavanaugh-Ford." Dr. Ford testified under oath. Ms. Reade has said she will. But the real comparable is Trump. If the V-P is to be investigated, so must Trump be.

'The Suicide of Capitalism,' Revisited Global warming is clearly getting worse, and so are its outcomes. Warnings have been issued with great regularity from the UN, from climate science and scientists, and etc. But nothing significant has happened, except that the predicted total disaster date has moved ever closer. The "why" has this happened can be summed up in one word "capitalism." I published a column on this subject about 6 1/2 years ago, reproduced here.

From 'Fiddler on the Roof' to Netanyahu's Israel. How Did We Get from A to B? "Fiddler on the Roof" in English is a musical comedy with tragic overtones, especially at the end. "Fiddler on the Roof" in Yiddish is a tragedy, with comic relief and some good dancing.

The COVID-19 Epidemic and the Disastrous Federal Government Response: It Ain't Just Trump Trump has been characterizing the oncoming COVID-19 epidemic as some combination of Obama's fault, a Democratic hoax and/or re-run of impeachment, and etc. In particular there has been a major gap in testing. Some speculate that that relates to Trump's concerns about his re-election chances. But there has also been traditional modern Repub. resistance to "big government." This column explores the relationship. Page 8 of 30 First Last Back Next 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 View All |
