Allowing health insurance companies to "sell one policy across state lines" is a trap! In the Presidential debate recently, when asked what he would do to improve healthcare, Donald Trump's first response, was the suggestion that we allow the sale of one health care policy in all 50 states. Unfortunately that would lead to a major disaster in health care in the US, one which would be totally irreversible since we signed the GATS agreement as part of our entry into the WTO in 1995.

Strange Inconsistency Between WTO Rules and US Politicians' Proclamations on Single Payer Raises Dark Questions. It appears that WTO rules directly conflict with expansion of any public services not carved out from their rules in writing, especially single payer healthcare, raising questions as to whether there is a cover up going on by politicians and the insurance and drug industries, creating a false impression that the changes taking place are reversible by voting. Soon they wont be.

The GOP's "Healthcare Plan" was decided 20 years ago in the 90s by- the Clinton Administration There is a lot of speculation about what Trump will do in health care, but his path is already fairly clear if one looks at the US's long stated policies on trade in health care services. It will be called deregulation, but it actually will involve the most Byzantine and non-intuitive new regulations imaginable, which will be totally out of our hands! Changing so much so fast will mean disaster for most Americans finances.

A Rosetta Stone to Bad Policy and Bad Politics- Part One I think a great many of the most frustrating policy problems we are frustrated by today can be traced to Americans (and to a lesser extent Europeans) lack of knowledge of a process that arguably began with a little known 1995 trade agreement on services, (the WTO "GATS") and a specific definition used in both that agreement and many subsequent others, and its calculating, intentional ambiguity.
