Independent scholar based in Almaty (Kazakhstan), a faculty member at Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Suleyman Demirel University in Almaty and a non-residential research fellow at the Rethink Institute, Washington, DC. Zhussipbek received his PhD degree in 2008 and MA in 2001, Bachelor Degree in 1998 from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Science, Department of International Relations. Zhussipbek's main research interests are the European security, security of the post-Soviet area, social and religious situation in Central Asia, liberalism, Islam and democracy, state-religion relations.

What ought to be the Muslims' response to freedom of choice or a person cannot turn out to be saint through enforcement A main idea of properly perceived freedom of choice is to let a person her/himself to choose between 'good' and 'evil, 'Godly' and 'Satanic'. Freedom of choice can help crystallise and elevate human potentials from coal-like level to the ranks of brilliant. It is a human inner journey which should be full of temptations and opportunities to choose a direction. Is not that God's aim in creating humankind?

Muslims Need Serious Self-Criticism Contemporary Muslims urgently need serious self-interrogation. The meaning of the message of Islam is surely bigger than such problems as occupied lands, abducted governments and resources or hurt honor and dignity". It is high time for all Muslims and, particularly their leaders, to communicate non-contentious, human rights-centered, universal interpretations of Islam.

Islam and the Acceptance of Diversity It can be argued that all radical Muslims who claim to act in the name of Islam, in reality, quite ironically, do not properly understand the very basic pillar of the Islamic creed -- Oneness of God (Tawheed) -- which they pretend to defend or restore. But the proper belief in Tawheed signifies the utmost humility and an acceptance of diversity and respect for human-kind.
