Finally, the third kind of jobs that immigrants aren't stealing are the ones that "native" people are too scared to do, like opening a liquor store in Detroit. Immigrants put our food on the table. They rebuild our dilapidated communities. They raise our intellectual ceiling. How can you be against that?

This past weekend, in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Robert Bowers calmly walked into the Tree of Life Congregation and murdered 11 Jewish parishioners. Reportedly, he yelled out, "All Jews must die!" It was the single deadliest attack on Jews in American history. May the victims rest in peace and may their souls be exalted.

Many who watch our saga in the news think there is a country named Israel, a country named Palestine, and they're fighting each other. But this is not the case. The Palestinians are legally stateless. They are citizens of nowhere. They do not vote for the parties who ultimately rule them. The Israeli prime minister and parliament control the everyday fate of about 12 million people throughout Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.

While Sanders doesn't explicitly say what we want him to on Palestine, when I look around during his rallies, I see a sea of faces that do. And if they can say "Free Palestine," I can legitimately work to make Bernie say it too. With a strong Arab American voice, I can quite comfortably proclaim that I #FeelTheBern.

I'm a Palestine-loving, Bernie Sanders progressive. So, let me be clear. I'm not going to vote for Donald Trump. He has done stupid and damaging things. He is a nativist, a white nationalist, a racist. He vilifies people of color. And he put kids in cages.

It's time, and has been for some time, for us Palestinians to get on board with Israel's right-wing and advocate for one state in all of historic Palestine (Israel, Jerusalem, West Bank, and Gaza). I'll be the first to say to #Trumpenyahu, "I'm with you." Let's go for a "Greater Israel." In fact, I have a slogan for it: "Make Israel Great Again."

My goal as a Palestinian isn't trying to get you to believe my story. I wish it were that simple. No, instead, it's getting you to believe that I'm worthy of telling a story to begin with. Being Palestinian means possessing the quite exhausting daily task of convincing the world that you are, in fact, a human being. It means having to engage in the absurd discussion of whether or not al-Sharif's murder was justifiable.

Bigotry against Arabs and Muslims in America is stylish. It garners votes. No one has to resign, or drop out of the presidential race. Every season is open season on us. We're the only group this still happens to. We are racists' last hope. And as you can personally attest, being only half a Muslim is no help. You still get the full Islamophobic package.
SHARE Monday, April 18, 2016 Bernie is the real hope and change
With Bernie, we don't have to hope. We don't have to have faith. If you like the things Bernie says, well, you're in luck, because he has been saying them for 50 years. This is perhaps the most important distinction between that 2008 campaign and the campaign of today. Bernie has always been on message, hearing and bearing the political attacks all along the way.
SHARE Tuesday, September 15, 2015 A New Generation for Palestine
Equal rights for all Palestinians in all of Palestine must be our mantra moving forward. Of course, this starts with convincing the world that Israel cannot continue to be legitimized as long as it preaches Jewish supremacy. But as long as we are mired in meaningless negotiations, futile stately aspirations, and corrupt leadership, we will remain spinning our wheels.

What defines normalization with Zionist groups and individuals? Debates and misunderstandings abound about the subject and what Palestinians demand.

I'm not advocating that we throw the moniker of "terrorism" on all white criminals as quickly as it is thrust upon us. I'm just asking that we get the "deranged, delusional, disturbed, depressed" treatment every now and then.
SHARE Friday, October 23, 2015 Wait, Netanyahu said what?
As a Palestinian, I am quite accustomed to seeing Israel and its leaders invoke the Holocaust to somehow justify terrible actions against my people. But in Netanyahu's twilight zone, policies of extrajudicial killing, house demolitions, massacres, land confiscations, and essentially everything Israel has done since 1948, are recast as some sort of "revenge" for the Holocaust.

I could talk about Ali's compassion, kindness, and influence. But to me, his defiance is what I remember. It's what I identify with. America is a place that allows us to speak loudly, achieve proudly, and preach avowedly. But it also a place that oftentimes can alienate those of us who sound, look, eat, and celebrate outside of the norm.
SHARE Saturday, April 30, 2016 Mandela's statue arrived in Palestine, but his legacy hasn't yet
As a Palestinian, I am excited to see Mandela arrive in my homeland. I hope his legacy follows, because it's not there yet. Yes, Israel has been acting like apartheid South Africa for some time. Mr. Mandela, our leadership doesn't deserve to look at you. I apologize that it was Mahmoud Abbas who welcomed you into our beautiful land. We surely had better choices.
(1 comments) SHARE Saturday, December 12, 2015 What is Trump's secret to success? 2042!
I'm optimistic. First, Americans of all shades (including great white ones) have roundly denounced Trump's xenophobic policies. In fact, as an Arab, I've noticed something particularly groundbreaking. Trump signifies the first time that white Americans have felt compelled to apologize for a crazy person who looks like them. It's truly historic.

President Obama is right when he says cutting off the refugees is counter to our values. It's collective punishment. It's guilt by association. It's holding the lot guilty for the insane acts of the few. It is, in short, un-American. By the way, weren't the pilgrims refugees too? Either you believe in the inscription on the Statue of Liberty or you don't. It's that simple.
