Sam Harris and Bill Maher on Real Time, From ImagesAttr

Sam Harris, Bill Maher, and their amateur hour on Islam We can build coalitions against such in-your-face bigotry (one of the positive offshoots of Trump, if I'm looking for any). Countering blatant Islamophobia is necessary. But it is not a brave exercise. The challenge is how to deal with the latent sort, the brand of Islamophobia that cloaks itself in liberalism.

A letter to Beyonce from a Palestinian Beyonce, are you crazy in love with Israel? Are you crazy in love with a nation that has dispossessed and disenfranchised millions of native Palestinians, illegally settling their land, depriving them of the most basic of political rights, and silencing their narrative? Are you crazy in love with a nation that has ignored more United Nations Security Council resolutions than any other?

Yes, "Black Panther" Is A Little Anti-Muslim "Black Panther" is a $200 million Marvel superhero movie, so I don't necessarily expect it to be sophisticated, delicate, or profound in a social or political manner. On the other hand, it will gross over $1 billion, and to demonstrate that a Black movie can do that is wildly important.

The lazy reporting around Detroit's anti-Israel billboard The text in the billboard is not pointing to Israeli actions at all. If one understood even the basics about the American-Palestinian-Israeli axis, he would immediately recognize that this billboard was primarily condemning the huge amounts of foreign aid Israel receives from the American congress annually.

The Republican party's whiteness problem If the Republicans insist on being the party of white Americans who feel they are "losing their country" (which, of course, is not "theirs" to begin with), they will never win another presidential election in our new America. If it continues to disregard the demographically-remade American electorate of today, the Republican Party will soon be closing up shop.

Boycott Burgerim? Yes! Burgerim's rise was performed on stolen Palestinian land, supported by the same state that is responsible for millions of Palestinian refugees, daily home demolitions, the denial of civil rights to non-Jews, indiscriminate bombings of Palestinian neighborhoods, the jailing of Palestinian children, and more.

Some advice for Pamela Geller You are spending a lot of time trying to offend Muslims. In fact, you have made a bit of a career out of it. And while you might think otherwise, you're not doing a great job. You're going about it all wrong. Sure, drawing cartoons of Muhammad might get a couple of crazies to crash one of your events. But the vast majority of Muslims aren't really going to do anything about it. You're just a small nuisance to most of us.

Welcome to the Black Spring This past Wednesday evening, as marchers demonstrated in Baltimore, more protesters sprang up in New York, Washington, DC, Minneapolis, and Denver. They are telling us that this is not the case of a few bad cops acting badly every now and then. It is the case of bad system performing badly all the time.

Are We Palestinians So Hard To Understand? We Palestinians are Israel's constant reminder. And this is what Israel hates most. We are being killed precisely because we won't bow down. Our imprisonment, exile, and dispossession are not sufficient for our occupier. It's not enough for Israel that we are its victims. We must shut up too.

Laquan the Palestinian Black lives in America are Palestinian lives in Israel: discounted and expendable. In America, black lives were brought by force and sold as property. In Israel, Palestinian lives had their property stolen from beneath their feet, being told (still today) that they are somehow "foreign" in their own land.

Jesus, the radical Palestinian activist Jesus would find it bizarre that we incarcerate more people than we educate. And after studying our political parties, Jesus would likely be quite confused as to why the Republicans invoke him so much and the Democrats so little. He'd vote for Bernie Sanders, because, lest we forget, two thousand years before Bernie Sanders was a radical Jewish socialist from Vermont, Jesus was a radical Jewish socialist from Palestine.

Israel can't survive the world wide web Israel can only respond in one of two ways. She could just cut off all internet access to those pesky Palestinians (remember, she can do this because of the whole military occupation thing). Or she could take a long look in the mirror and realize that she is losing. She needs to change her ways. In the egalitarian world of the internet, her prospects are bleak.

Don't mess with Palestinians They drop bombs, we drop babies. They have tanks and helicopters, but we have the strongest weapon in the world. Don't push us. Don't challenge us. We end up as multilingual, super-educated, hyper-reproductive, overachieving marvels. That's right. Don't mess with us Palestinians. If you do, we will outwork you, we will outsmart you, and we will, if necessary, outfuck you too.

A letter to my Trump-voting neighbors You might have voted for him because you're scared. Because you don't have a good job, and because you're worried your kids won't either. Because the government is screwed up and rigged. And you think he's the answer. But when you elected him, you empowered this ugliness. You, intentionally or not, allowed some to think it's now acceptable to openly and proudly make the rest of us feel like we don't belong.

Trump's Immigration Policy Is More American Than You Think It's quite popular these days to declare that Donald Trump's racist views on immigration are "un-American." He only wants white people coming here. "Why can't we have more people from Norway?" He wants to get rid of Latinos and black people. "Do we really need more Haitians?" He devalues, denigrates, and dehumanizes the culture of Africans. "They come from shithole countries."

Why would you read history books? You can just visit Palestine, the living museum of colonialism, oppression, and apartheid. It's like nowhere else the world. We look forward to your visit.

Israel, you must be so embarrassed You're incessantly building settlements on my land, relentlessly expanding your wall and choking off my people. I guess that was supposed to annoy us enough to just up and leave. But it seems you haven't learned your lesson. It's going to take a lot more than that. Actually, there's nothing you can really do. And you know it. It must be so infuriating.

The Arab American Bernie aftermath A note to the Clinton campaign. It seems, by your actions, that either you take us for granted ("They won't vote for Trump, right?") or you are completely inattentive and/or disdainful on our matters of interest. I wouldn't be so dismissive if I were you. As we showed Bernie, we will respect politicians after they respect us. Pay attention, Mrs. Clinton. After they respect us. Never before.

Jerusalem Still Speaks Arabic Jerusalem's been Arab for 1,400 years. Crusader campaigns tried to change her. It didn't work. Israeli colonization, settlement, and profanity have tried to change her. They've failed terribly. Some stuttering speech about an embassy won't succeed either. She's one of us. Don't worry. She can handle this.

I Said, "Please Don't Be Arab" ... Then I Realized He Couldn't Be This past weekend, in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Robert Bowers calmly walked into the Tree of Life Congregation and murdered 11 Jewish parishioners. Reportedly, he yelled out, "All Jews must die!" It was the single deadliest attack on Jews in American history. May the victims rest in peace and may their souls be exalted.

Are immigrants stealing American jobs? Finally, the third kind of jobs that immigrants aren't stealing are the ones that "native" people are too scared to do, like opening a liquor store in Detroit. Immigrants put our food on the table. They rebuild our dilapidated communities. They raise our intellectual ceiling. How can you be against that?

Palestine, the alternate universe Many who watch our saga in the news think there is a country named Israel, a country named Palestine, and they're fighting each other. But this is not the case. The Palestinians are legally stateless. They are citizens of nowhere. They do not vote for the parties who ultimately rule them. The Israeli prime minister and parliament control the everyday fate of about 12 million people throughout Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.

This Arab is voting for the Jew While Sanders doesn't explicitly say what we want him to on Palestine, when I look around during his rallies, I see a sea of faces that do. And if they can say "Free Palestine," I can legitimately work to make Bernie say it too. With a strong Arab American voice, I can quite comfortably proclaim that I #FeelTheBern.

One state in "Palestein" It's time, and has been for some time, for us Palestinians to get on board with Israel's right-wing and advocate for one state in all of historic Palestine (Israel, Jerusalem, West Bank, and Gaza). I'll be the first to say to #Trumpenyahu, "I'm with you." Let's go for a "Greater Israel." In fact, I have a slogan for it: "Make Israel Great Again."

A week of being Palestinian My goal as a Palestinian isn't trying to get you to believe my story. I wish it were that simple. No, instead, it's getting you to believe that I'm worthy of telling a story to begin with. Being Palestinian means possessing the quite exhausting daily task of convincing the world that you are, in fact, a human being. It means having to engage in the absurd discussion of whether or not al-Sharif's murder was justifiable.

President Obama, please say something Bigotry against Arabs and Muslims in America is stylish. It garners votes. No one has to resign, or drop out of the presidential race. Every season is open season on us. We're the only group this still happens to. We are racists' last hope. And as you can personally attest, being only half a Muslim is no help. You still get the full Islamophobic package.

Bernie is the real hope and change With Bernie, we don't have to hope. We don't have to have faith. If you like the things Bernie says, well, you're in luck, because he has been saying them for 50 years. This is perhaps the most important distinction between that 2008 campaign and the campaign of today. Bernie has always been on message, hearing and bearing the political attacks all along the way.

A New Generation for Palestine Equal rights for all Palestinians in all of Palestine must be our mantra moving forward. Of course, this starts with convincing the world that Israel cannot continue to be legitimized as long as it preaches Jewish supremacy. But as long as we are mired in meaningless negotiations, futile stately aspirations, and corrupt leadership, we will remain spinning our wheels.

Wait, Netanyahu said what? As a Palestinian, I am quite accustomed to seeing Israel and its leaders invoke the Holocaust to somehow justify terrible actions against my people. But in Netanyahu's twilight zone, policies of extrajudicial killing, house demolitions, massacres, land confiscations, and essentially everything Israel has done since 1948, are recast as some sort of "revenge" for the Holocaust.

My grandfather's name was Muhammad too I could talk about Ali's compassion, kindness, and influence. But to me, his defiance is what I remember. It's what I identify with. America is a place that allows us to speak loudly, achieve proudly, and preach avowedly. But it also a place that oftentimes can alienate those of us who sound, look, eat, and celebrate outside of the norm.

What is Trump's secret to success? 2042! I'm optimistic. First, Americans of all shades (including great white ones) have roundly denounced Trump's xenophobic policies. In fact, as an Arab, I've noticed something particularly groundbreaking. Trump signifies the first time that white Americans have felt compelled to apologize for a crazy person who looks like them. It's truly historic.

You may yearn to breathe free, unless you're Muslim President Obama is right when he says cutting off the refugees is counter to our values. It's collective punishment. It's guilt by association. It's holding the lot guilty for the insane acts of the few. It is, in short, un-American. By the way, weren't the pilgrims refugees too? Either you believe in the inscription on the Statue of Liberty or you don't. It's that simple.
