Mr. President, why not buy out Afghanistan instead of invading? For about $6 billion USD we could buy the entire wholesale value of the Afghan opium crop for the next 10 years. That is about what we'll spend in 2 months covering the cost of deploying 30,000 combat troops. Spend that money a little creatively and we could avoid a catastrophe in Afghanistan.

Brother President, you Break my Heart. Watching the speech at West Point called to mind the song by James Blunt, "No Bravery". As I looked at the president I saw no bravery, only sadness.

Sen. Tom Coburn, MD and the Hypocritical Oath Let me introduce you to some of the good, decent, God-fearing people Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) is throwing to the wolves. Depravity in a senator is nothing new. But this takes the cake.

Getting in touch with my inner rage and finding room for hope. The president receives the fallen at Dover AFB and with that act shows more compassion and courage than the entire Bush administration ever did in eight years.

'til death do us part... I've never been a big fan of Nancy Pelosi's leadership as Speaker of the House, but I was glad to hear her speak out against the rising tide of violent rhetoric. I recognized the pain behind the tears she was choking back.

The Key To Uncle Tom's Cabin, White Trash and Joe Wilson The party of Lincoln, the party of Margaret Chase, the party of Eisenhower, the party of Jack Kemp, and the party of John Danforth is no more. It has been taken over by white trash and their cynical manipulators.

Dr. David McKalip tries to play bait-and-switch The debate is not about government-run health care. It is about government containing uncontrolled inflation in the health care insurance market. Confusing the two is a bait-and-switch tactic that needs to be debunked.

Mything the Point of "White Men Built This Country." If MSNBC wants to put racists, hypocrites or Republicans on, that is their decision. But could they at least stop putting on morons who flaunt their ignorance of American history like Pat Buchanan?

The Sotomayor confirmation battle -- fait accompli . The GOP says they want to review all of Sotomayor's decisions but it's all greek to them. Besides, it's a fait accompli so why continue the kabuki?

Un.Be.Lieve.Able. Cheney effectively admits he lied us into war. Dick Cheney admits there was NEVER evidence linking Hussein to 9/11. He's not claiming "bad" intelligence or "faulty" intelligence. He admits there was NO evidence despite the fact they used that claim to help justify going to war.

Why isn't THIS memo front and center in the torture debate? This memo by Maj. Sherwood Moran has to be part of any discussion of torture -- especially by US forces engaged in combat.

The Fool is dead. Long Live the Fool! Sadly, Carlin will not get to perform at this year's Kennedy Center Awards. I was looking forward to it because I suspect he would have come at Bush like Colbert.... only with a baseball bat.
