Suffolk Cty., NY: High school children should not be used as drug informants As a mom, I do not wish to get a phone call from anyone that either of my children have been taken from me long before their time. That is my greatest fear for all of the children who attend any high school in Suffolk County, NY.

Swine flu: Keeping it in perspective in relation to other diseases Is this a case of making much a do about nothing? No, since people were infected and in the case of that toddler in Texas; death occurred. I just think we need to keep this flu in perspective with other diseases which have taken the lives of so many people and will continue to do so.

Public school teachers are the unsung heroes in this society Public school teachers are the unsung heroes in this society and as one looks upon the captains of industry, namely Wall Street executives, teachers beat them hands down. As teachers teach, they look to be the solution makers and that to me is meritorious.

Foreclosure bill: With Democratic Senators like this, who needs enemies? At times, I have written as an activist journalist asking those who read my columns to spring into action letting the offenders know of their anger and in this column, I will do so again.

Pollution and lack of health care for all is the true epidemic and pandemic If you truly wish to be concerned of any outbreaks of diseases where some are fatal, they come at the hands of companies that pollute our air, our water ways and where this country still does not have health insurance for all.

Swine Flu: The words of Gavin DeBecker ring true In watching the media's coverage of the 'Swine Flu' story, already they are doing one heck of a job scaring the bejesus of we the people. We are seeing masks being worn and while it may be warranted health wise, the images translate to us we are in a dire emergency. Are we?

Ground Zero site to be completed in decades? Such stupidity. We are a country that has sent several manned missions to the moon and it is taking this long to build on that site? We have sent several unmanned missions to Mars and here we still are with nothing at Ground Zero to commemorate those who died as planes crashed into those buildings.

Anti-war protesters treated like traitors...Teabag protesters treated with deference Don't you dare cry over paying higher taxes when it was the actions of the former administration that led to them. You see, spending billions upon billions for an unjust war does trickle down and Bush's fiscal policies led to the very misery we are all living in at the present.

Teabag protesters should ask if Rupert Murdoch has paid his fair share of taxes It is unbelievable to hear Glenn Beck, Neil Cavuto, Sean Hannity and other dupes from Fox News speak of taxes when their boss, Rupert Murdoch has not paid his fair share of taxes. Go after these tax cheats who do use these tax-havens.

Teabag protesters should ask: Am I being duped by Fox News? Glenn Beck with his '9/12' movement has ceased to be an on-air journalist (not that I ever believed he had the right to call himself that), but is a one man PAC.

To the National Organization for Marriage: Quit your bitching! In reading of so much misery in this country and the world for that matter, you feel you have the right to bitch? People are dying and you think your perceived problem is larger and more important than theirs?

The opening scenes of NBC's "Southland", I faded it to black I do not know if I was the only one feeling assaulted in the opening scenes, but if they think they can capture the viewers of "ER", they are sadly mistaken.

Massive earthquake rocks the Kuril Islands in the wake of Italy's quake I do feel that scientists such as seismologists and geologists are an integral part in keeping all of us safe especially when we have witnessed many deaths coming from earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Call them the canaries in a coal mine.

Today Italy suffered an earthquake where 91 died...What say you, Gov. Bobby Jindal? As we throw good money after bad fighting insane wars, propping up financial institutions who we say cannot fail, the earth just waits to erupt under our feet. What will these elected officials say to those harmed by them?

SCHIP: Two other ideas on how to fund it...One the politicos will not like, "I'm lovin it!" I have been told in responses to my previous column that it is my choice whether or not to smoke and the same applies here. One has a choice to eat at McDonalds or other fast food restaurants whose products are as equally unhealthy for you.

President Barack Obama, you lied to me and broke a promise not to raise my taxes To President Barack Obama, you broke your solemn promise to me NOT to raise my taxes. It does infuriate me that you could not pass on the cost of this program to a broader spectrum of this society and that me and many others like me are forced to bear the burden.

My 'Founding Fathers Award': Is awarded to those fighting off floodwaters Forces of nature are just as destructive as any economic one, but in the economic case, those in power had the control to put sandbags in front of any dike to stem its destructive nature.

Can congress use the USA Patriot Act to address CEO bonuses? Who would have thought that one of the vilest pieces of legislation signed into law by former President Bush just may be the very tool we can use to help restore some form of fiscal sanity. But, does any congressional leader have the temerity to use this law to address our redress of grievances?

Only $242 million to treat soldiers with brain injuries...Yet billions to Wall Street Our soldiers deserve a champion of their cause as they suffer these brain injuries, because their lives are as precious. To those medical experts who have come on television to explain Ms. Richardson's death, please do the same in honor of our injured troops.
