It seemed inconceivable that a NY Court would overrule the Board of Elections and allow DREs to be purchased. But on 2/4/8, that's what happened, frustrating advocates who thought we'd finally prevailed over the DRE threat. The ruling sets another precedent that the right of voting machine vendors to turn a profit supersedes that of voters to demand that the equipment we spend our tax dollars on be up to the job.
SHARE Saturday, February 2, 2008 DREs Take It To Court
This shows what LibertyVote and their Dutch backer Nedap think of New York State voters and our laws. For LibertyVote and Nedap, this is not about the needs of voters with disabilities or the citizens of New York State, this is simply about cold, hard cash...

DRE vendor Liberty has asked for a temporary restraining order in Albany Supreme Court, asking to be included on the list of voting machines approved in NY.

As I sit here, I'm embarrassed. Today I witnessed an appalling display of how willing are some in the State Board of Elections to represent the interests of DRE vendors, even when this directly conflicts with the interests of voters and the requirements of state law.
SHARE Sunday, January 20, 2008 Breakthrough at the Board?
Sources at the State Board of Elections say that the Board's inability to agree on Ballot Marking Devices could result in only one system being authorized at the Board's crucial meeting on Wednesday, 1/23/08 – a combination ballot marker and scanner which would virtually guarantee that NY votes on paper ballots when lever machines are retired in 2009...
