Wake Up Canada! Government for the people by the people - all the people equally - that's what democracy means. Undemocratic activities have characterised the Canadian government, including shutting down Parliament. Citizens should care.

NGO Monitor: Sucking the life out of Civil society Attacks by partisan outfits designed to exempt powerful Israel from the provisions of international/ humanitarian law are unconscionable and dangerous as they shut down debates and weaken civil society, two basic elements of democracy. The Canadian government defunded KAIROS, changed its UNRWA funding and stacked boards with pro-Israel members, as in Rights & Democracy which is now in the middle of a serious crisis.

Gaza: Responsibility to protect Humanitarian aid to Gazans blocked by Israel without any international outcry -- Bombing of civilian infrastructure and killings over 1000 Palestinians.... No outrage seems large enough to provoke international censure. The principle of isolating a culpable government has been used in other instances, why not Israel?

How Can Terrorizing a Civilian Population be a Right? The double standard used for Israel and Palestine is untenable. There is a parallel between Tamils and Palestinians - still both situations have been treated differently. The crisis in Sri Lanka was debated in Parliament - very good -, but discussion of the situation of Palestinian civilians in Gaza has been shut down in the name of the sacred "Israel's right to defence."

Together They Cannot be Defeated: UNHRC Vote a Victory for Civil Society The endorsement of the Goldstone Report at the UNHRC was a victory for civil society - Palestinian and international. Instead of launching a credible inquiry, Israel is cranking up its PR campaign and seeking to change the law of wars. Should the international community decide that injustice and bloodshed must end, there are law-based solutions available. The one thing that is needed is the will to do the right thing.

The U.N.'s only progeny. Since the partition of Palestine by a U.N. resolution, Israel has rejected all U.N. decisions and, like a spoiled child, has consistently challenged and undermined the U.N. 'parental' authority with impunity. Time for tough love?
