Steve Stringham is a wildlife ecologist living in Alaska. Over the past 4 decades, he has studied animals in both marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Particular attention has been paid to bears, moose, and other large mammals. He is the author of several books as well as hundreds of pages of information on bears and conservation on the web. He is founding Director of the Bear Viewing Association -- an organization dedicated to promoting "harmonious diplomacy" between humans and bears, as well as other highly intelligent species. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Univ. of Alaska and President of WildWatch LLC, which includes an environmental consulting division. The motto of WildWatch Consulting is "Making Good Conservation Good Business." He has investigated a wide range of environmental impacts and testified on this as an expert witness before state boards, federal judges and congressional subcommittees. One of his national magazine articles "Smokey & Mirrors: The War Between Science & PseudoScience in Grizzly Bear Conservation" exemplifies his life-long battle against corruption of science for political objectives. His efforts to minimize socio-economic impacts of environmental conservation require that he keep abreast of national and international events.
