What is Informed Consent? Informed consent is a process, not just a formality, and engaging in that process is of the essence of good medical care. A signed consent form is not informed consent. True informed consent is explaining to the patient all their rights including their right to not have treatment as well as all pertinent information regarding the treatment or procedure.

Wasting the Taxpayers Medicaid Dollars on Psychiatric Drugs Based on a national population of 250 million Americans, the annual costs to the Medicaid programs would balloon to approximately 3.7 billion dollars per year to treat schizophrenia alone. That is over ten million dollars per day just in Medicaid expenditures for schizophrenia drugs. We need to more carefully scrutinize Medicaid expenditures for psychiatric medications.

30 Republican Senators Vote to Not Investigate or Prosecute Rape Rape is a crime under international law yet the US Supreme Court made a decision in Circuit City v Adams that undermines effective law enforcement of civil laws. 30 US Senators refused to vote for the Franken amendment which would give rape victims their civil right to their day in court and to see their rapist investigated and prosecuted.

Contemplating the Death Penalty and Justice Human rights advocates have expressed concerns about the appropriateness of the death penalty as it is applied here in the USA. Statistics did not prove that it was a real deterrent to crime. Instead by 2001, the murder rate in the death penalty states was 37% higher than the rate in states without the death penalty.

Hunger Strike - Mother Protests Abuse of Son On Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, Cindi Fisher had decided to go on a hunger strike in civil protest of her son's medical treatment. Western State Hospital has caused a forced separation and is preventing her from seeing her son.
