It's Not Just Religious Conservatives Who Oppose Mandatory HPV Vaccination News coverage about the new vaccine to ostensibly prevent cervical cancer has been so focused on sex politics that the real debate has been ignored. What about its long-term safety? Does the state really have a compelling interest to mandate vaccines for a disease that isn't transmitted by casual contact? Do parents have any say in the health decisions for their adolescent girls? This is about much more than pre-marital sex.
