Greg Palast's newest book, Vultures' Picnic will be released by Penguin Books in November of 2011. Find out more info at VulturesPicnic.org
How the "Bernie of Mexico" Won the Presidency
AMLO has won a crushing, too-big-to-steal victory in Mexico's presidential election.
And while the Good and Great told him he'd be finished if he kept protesting the stolen election, he made counting every vote the very first of his five-point campaign platform. He understands that even those with empty stomachs also hunger for democracy.

Why we are suing Ohio and Kansas -- We CAN Reverse Purges
The doors to the truth are opening. Ohio's Husted has now given us the name of every single voter purged in the last decade. But we need the details of who got postcards, who returned them, and why he sent these voters postcards in the first place. And we need copies of the junk mail that stole Ohio's democracy.

Ohio's Junk Mail Trick Led The Supreme Court To Approve Jim Crow Vote Purge
Even the Court's right-wing majority concedes that federal law strictly forbids removing voters because they skipped some elections. The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 states that a voter purge program "shall not result in the removal of the name of any person ... by reason of the person's failure to vote."

Rhymes with Weinstein
Greg Palast, the journalist, shares a brain with Greg Palast the poet and story writer. This is the first time Palast the poet has bothered you with verse -- and the last time.

Mom's Last Message For You
In 1988, Mom was a delegate to the Democratic Party Convention in Atlanta. But the maids and janitors at the Atlanta Marriott were on strike. My mother donned her red-white-and-blue outfit, added a mop and bucket -- dressed union pickets with the same outfits -- and challenged the Democrats not to cross the picket line. It put her and her mop on the cover of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Gladys Palast 1921 -- 2018
On Friday at 11am, Mom will be memorialized at Miramar Military Cemetery. My father, who gave away his combat medals to protest the War in Vietnam, will have his ashes interred beside her; each will receive a full military color guard. Mom taught us how to make noise, make trouble and make a difference -- in our little tract home in San Fernando Valley, filled with extraordinary idealism, humor, confidence, caring and love.

Cambridge Analytica Ain't Nuthin: Look out for i360 and DataTrust
The GOP has been using computer power to erase the voting rights of Black and Hispanic voters for years -- by "caging," "Crosscheck," citizenship challenges based on last name (Garcia? Not American!!), the list goes on -- a far more effective use of cyberpower than manipulating your behavior through Facebook ads.
Florida = Honduras: Inequality kills.
A crucial factor about the Florida killer: his family had to move out of the school district because they couldn't afford the rent. Resentment yields anger. Not every poor kid becomes a killer -- think Bill Clinton -- but there will be one. Inequality kills.

The "Steele Dossier" on... Me: Why the Nunes Memo should scare you
Despite Nunes' assertions, nothing in his memo -- none of this FBI misconduct, however unacceptable -- undermines Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Trump and gang. Still, I cannot applaud billionaires bending our elections, manipulating -- wittingly or unwittingly -- the FBI.
How JFK Saved MLK's Life And So Won The Presidency
It was a Republican, Martin Luther King Sr., who made John Kennedy president of the United States -- for JFK's saving Daddy King's son, Martin Jr., from lynching. Those mighty Kings and Kennedys are gone. Today, we honor a man whose courage must now be ours; and then we can make American truly great again.
Gov. McAuliffe, End New Jim Crow Voter Suppression Tactic
Imagine if Gov. McAuliffe put an end to Virginia's strange and inexplicable participation in a GOP voter suppression trick that reeks of Jim Crow. Since 2013, this stealth voter purge program has cost tens of thousands of Virginians of color their right to vote. It's called Interstate Crosscheck. The Crosscheck hit list is racially biased in the extreme. The lists are little more than compilations of common names.

Legal victory stops steal in 'Bama! But...
There's one certain way to stop these vote-suppression games. One candidate, named Barack Obama, told our team: You can't steal all the votes all the time. Turn out so massively, they just can't steal it. We will see if enough Alabama citizens will cross that bridge tomorrow to overcome the trickery and flim-flam that Alabama calls an election.
The Keystone Pipeline And The Safety PIG That Was Muzzled So It Couldn't Squeal
Federal law requires pipelines, like the Keystone, to be regularly inspected to spot corrosion, failing welds, minor leaks, and other such issues before they can cause any problems. To do this, oil companies send PIGs -- Pipeline Inspection Gauges -- through their pipes. However, the data they send back is only as good as the computer code used to analyze it.

I went to School with the Vegas Shooter
This is where Paddock and Palast were bred: Sun Valley, the anus of Los Angeles. Steve's brain was too big to end up on the tracks. He lived in empty apartments in crappy buildings he bought, then in a barren tract house outside Reno. I laugh when they say he was "rich." He wanted to be THEM, to have their stuff. He got close.
How Hillary Votes Were Suppressed in Wisconsin
A new study estimates that at least 5.2% of voting-eligible registered voters in Wisconsin were prevented from voting in the 2016 presidential election because of new ID requirements.

Charlottesville: A gun in his face, but he got the photo
Don't look away. Four white neo-Nazis are beating a Black man, crawling on the ground, with their metal poles and a yellow hunk of lumber. The beating continues -- there's blood on the pavement.
Our photographer, Zach D. Roberts, continues to shoot -- even as a white militant raises a 9mm pistol to his face.
GOP States Send Voter Files to Kobach, While Claiming They Will "Resist" His Demand
Kobach, who has recently announced his candidacy for Governor of Kansas, has indicated the lists will be used to remove illegal voters. But voting rights advocates say the goal is actually to allow fewer people to vote.
Twenty-one states listed by CNN as refusing Kobach his demands for voter files have already turned over voter files to Kobach's office.
TrumpCare dies, XL flies -- and the secret winner is...
When RyanCare-TrumpCare finally ended up face-down in the swimming pool, triumphalist Democrats whooped and partied and congratulated themselves on defeating the Trump-Ryan monstrosity.
But deep in their counting house, counting their gold, three brothers cackled with private jubilation.
David and Charles Koch knew the day was theirs.
The No-BS Inside Guide to the Recount
There's been so much complete nonsense since I first broke the news that the Green Party would file for a recount of the presidential vote, I am compelled to write a short guide to flush out the BS and get to just the facts, ma'am.

Here's what we do now about Election Fraud -- a personal note
Being right never felt so horrid.
"This is the story of the theft of the 2016 election. It's a crime still in progress."
So opens my film, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy.
And on Election night I waited for the returns to make a fool of me.
Instead, the returns made the fool a President.
And so, my vacation's cancelled. My life's cancelled; that is, a life of anything but sleuthing and exposing the details...

The Election was Stolen -- Here's How...
Before a single vote was cast, the election was fixed by GOP and Trump operatives.
Starting in 2013 -- just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act -- a coterie of Trump operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP--controlled states.

'Colonel' behind the "caging" attack on Black voters in N Carolina exposed
'Colonel' behind the "caging" attack on Black voters in N Carolina exposed.
While the rest of the press is shocked that white North Carolina vigilantes are using racially-poisonous trickery to knock more than 6,700 Black citizens off the voter rolls, we already have the ringleader of the scheme on camera boasting of his election-snatching tactics.

The GOP's Stealth War Against Voters
The Crosscheck list disproportionately threatens solid Democratic constituencies: young, black, Hispanic and Asian-American voters -- with some of the biggest possible purges underway in Ohio and North Carolina, two crucial swing states with tight Senate races.

EXCLUSIVE: Trump and the 13 Losers Behind Him
Trump's inner circle, which, after an outcry over the glaring sex bias, was supplemented by eight women, features some of the worst offenders when it comes to political power-brokering for personal gain. But that's just pay-to-play politics, and is therefore not so surprising.

Bernie Should Take Satan's Advice
Clinton ran a campaign that basically sneered at idealism. It was the vice-principal telling us, "You can't have universal health care, you can't have low-cost education, you can't bust up the banks. A permanent coalition of Bernie activists will quickly turn that sneer into fear. Because if there's one thing a politician hates more than full disclosure of their donors, it's an informed, organized, and activated voter.

Dad's Last Erection
It was 1965 and Martin Luther King was speaking about the three kinds of love as defined by the Greek philosophers. King's philosophy lesson was given in a church surrounded by angry white men who changed their white sheets for police uniforms and were prepared to burn down the church as they had done before.
How California is being stolen from Sanders right now
How California is being stolen from Sanders right now. The complications of NPP voting virtually ensure that Clinton will "win" the California primary.
The party wants Clinton and has rigged the system while Sanders' people failed to do anything all year.

Placebo Ballots: Stealing California From Bernie Using an Old GOP Vote-Snatching Trick
Two million ballots in 2008 were provisional and most were thrown in the garbage. We are heading into a primary where poll workers are going to try to shunt the independent voters to the provisional ballots and get their votes thrown away. If you take a provisional ballot and you are an NPP voter, it will 100% be thrown away because you're not allowed to use that ballot even if they give it to you.
Fukushima: They Knew
I've seen a lot of sick stuff in my career, but this was sick on a new level.
Here was the handwritten log kept by a senior engineer at the nuclear power plant:
Wiesel was very upset. He seemed very nervous. Very agitated...In fact, the plant was riddled with problems that, no way on earth, could stand an earthquake.

Rubio's Billionaire wins ransom from Argentina
Paul Singer, known as The Vulture, won a $4.65 billion payment from Argentina -- nearly ONE HUNDRED TIMES his "investment" of $50 million in old Argentina bonds. It was, in finance speak, the most successful "vulture attack" ever.

Scalia's Black Beemer
There's been a lot of gleeful chuckling, for example, about Scalia's courtroom bench "humor." But behind his jokey comments lay a cruelty aimed at the poor, the injured, the Beemer-less class that turns to the Court as the last hope for protection against corporate and state violence.
Here's a telling example of Scalia's humor from a crucial voting rights case.

Who Hatched Rubio?
I've been on the trail of racist vote suppression tactics since 2000 when Katherine Harris was Purge'n General. And behind so many of the moves to disenfranchise voters, all too successful, is the Rove operation. This is not about whether Rubio or Clinton or Sanders or any other candidate should win. This is about making sure that the ballots, not the billionaires, determine the election.

Cops gun down un-armed journalist's career
Cops gun down un-armed journalist's career.
The story: On July 27, the LA Times fired their long-time columnist and cartoonist Ted Rall for fabricating a story of police misconduct. The LA Times' evidence? A tape recording provided by the LAPD. Problem was, the tape was muffled--possibly tampered with.
The US government told me Bin Laden read my book. But what is it not telling us?
Finding that Bin Laden read my book, with its several chapters revealing state secrets, confirms for me that the new official war on whistleblowers and reporters is not about keeping information out of the hands of terrorists, but making sure that "the public ought not to know" where the fools at the helm are leading us.

Chelsea Manning and the Deepwater Horizon Killings
The military whistleblower's 2010 Wikileaks dump included information that could have saved the 11 BP workers who died that spring in the Gulf of Mexico oil rig disaster.
Five years ago Monday, 11 men died on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig -- despite Chelsea Manning's effort to save their lives.

From White Sheets to Spreadsheets
Dr. King had to lead a dangerous march from Selma for voting rights that were supposedly guaranteed a century earlier by the 15th Amendment to the Constitution -- rights won after 600,000 Americans fought to their deaths between Bull Run and Gettysburg. The struggle for civil and human rights did not begin 50 years ago, and it will not end in another 50. It is a centuries-long story of advance and retreat.

Trojan Hearse: Greek Elections and the Euro Leper Colony
Europe is stunned, and bankers aghast, that polls show the new party of the Left, Syriza, will win Greece's parliamentary elections to be held this coming Sunday, January 25.
Syriza promises that, if elected, it will cure Greece of leprosy.
Oddly, Syriza also promises that it will remain in the leper colony.
The problem is, austerity run wild is merely a symptom of an illness. The underlying disease is the euro itself.

A Tale of Two Cuomos
It is the harsh and uncomforting work of a journalist to reveal the unforgiving facts when history is falsified. It's a task I would rather avoid, especially now that The Governor's great, golden voice, the voice that spoke for the working person, is silenced forever. Now, may you rest in peace, Mario Cuomo. Both of you.

The Secret Lists that Swiped the Senate
Statistics guru Nate Silver simply can't understand why every single legitimate poll indicated that Democrats should have gotten 4% more votes in the midterm elections than appeared in the final count.
The answer, Nate, is "Crosscheck."
If not for the boost of this voter-roll purge system used in 23 Republican-controlled states, the GOP could not have taken the U.S. Senate.

Voter purges alter US political map
Duplicate or double voting is a crime punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison. Yet, despite this supposed vote-fraud crime wave, not one suspect on Crosscheck lists was charged, although prosecutors would have access to any alleged fraudsters' names and addresses.

GOP-led Purge Threat to 3.5 Million Voters: Al Jazeera Expose
Election officials in 27 states, most of them Republicans, have launched a program that threatens a massive purge of voter rolls, especially targeting minority voters.
Al Jazeera America has obtained 2.1 million names from the target lists, kept confidential until now. Experts reviewing the lists conclude it is suspiciously over-weighted with Black, Hispanic and Asian-American voters.

Crime Scene -- New Orleans
Nine years ago this week, New Orleans drowned. Don't you dare blame Mother Nature. Miss Katrina killed no one in this town. But it was a homicide, with nearly 2,000 dead victims. If not Katrina, who done it? It wasn't an Act of God. It was an Act of Chevron. An Act of Exxon. An Act of Big Oil.
25 Years After Exxon Valdez, BP Was the Hidden Culprit
Because BP's willful negligence, prevarications and fraud in the Exxon Valdez spill cost the company nothing, its disdain for the law, for the environment and for the safety of its workers was repeated in the Gulf of Mexico with deadly consequences, resulting, two decades later, in the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Just this month, the Obama administration authorized BP to return to drilling in the Gulf.

Why are Christie and the Kochs in my driveway?
Why are Christie and the Kochs in my driveway?
Far more insidious, more corrosive and dangerous than the Governor of New Jersey playing traffic warden is the story of Gov. Chris Christie's secret meetings with a gaggle of billionaires ---- and the legality of the spending by the front organization set up following these hidden hugger-muggers.

The Mandela Barbie
I can't take it anymore. All week, I've watched Nelson Mandela reduced to a Barbie doll. From Fox News to the Bush family, the politicians and media mavens who body-blocked the anti-Apartheid Movement and were happy to keep Mandela behind bars, now get to dress his image up in any silly outfit they choose.
It's more nauseating than hypocrisy and ignorance.
