Opposition party members and lawyers have been blocked, arrested, disappeared, and last week the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda Vice President was beheaded with a machete left near where his body was dumped, in Rwanda's Makula River wetlands.

Broken bones and arrests at Rwandan Green Party convention The Rwandan Democratic Greens tried, for the fourth time, to hold their founding convention in Kigali, on 10.30.2009, but the police appeared again, this time with security operatives as well. On Friday morning, 10.30,2009 in San Francisco, P.S.T., I called and spoke to Frank Habineza, interim Rwandan Green Party leader, who was by that time in a Kigali hospital trying to aid Rwandan Greens injured in the ensuing chaos.

Don't drink the uranium On July 21, 2009, Obama Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced a two year "time out" on new uranium mining claims near the Grand Canyon. But, the announcement was straight out of Orwell's 1984, because new claims are not the issue; more than 10,000 claims have already been staked on the edge of the Grand Canyon, since 2006, and if even 1% become mines, they will endanger 30 million people's water supply.
