Maybe true, maybe not. Amusing but with a bite. It's worth thinking about a bit and says a lot about our country and the vast color divide.

No one should expect Cisco, Microsoft, Google, Facebook and other digital giants to stand up against the NSA or lead a serious movement against the surveillance state. A far better bet is that individual scientists and technicians will create spy-free alternatives, and many of their efforts will find homes beyond US borders.

A promise by presidential candidate Barack Oabama fell by the wayside on Thursday when President Obama's Justice Department argued against a badly needed reform of whistleblower protection law.
The surprise reversal on whistleblower protections comes on the heels of administration reversals of policy on military tribunals for terrorism suspects and the release of torture photos.

Over 99% of GMO crops in US soil are engineered to survive high doses of herbicide and/or produce their own insecticide. Overdosing our farms in pesticides has rapidly created a resistance in target weed and insect populations, so now we have "superweeds" and "superbugs" that aren't killed with normal doses of pesticides. We have the right to know if our food is engineered to be saturated in pesticides.

I've read the script. It's ridiculous, sexually exploitative, revolting stuff - everything you'd expect from a conservative re-writing of history. In my previous life, I produced and directed over 55 movies, mini-series and feature films. I thought I had pretty much seen anything and everything. But this garbage, coming so soon after Senator Ted Kennedy's death, makes the worst commercial schlock look Oscar-worthy.

I'd bet a huge number of those folks had a lot of other, better, and perhaps wage-earning things to do with their time as did the loved ones in their care. How many others-with unyielding schedules, dependents to care for, lack of knowledge,or simple frustration-didn't even make it into line that day? How many,if refused as we were, would have left and stayed away?Efficiency.Access.Civility. Rights.Something that shouldn't seem

Amidst the controversy, conservatives rushed the swearing in of Thomas. On the very day of his swearing in, the Washington Post had amassed damning evidence that corroborated Hill's testimony, including eyewitness accounts about Thomas' porn consumption from the manager of his local video store. Jeffrey Toobin reported that the Washington Post decided to drop the story since Thomas had already been sworn in to the court.

As you know, the proposed merger between Comcast and NBC Universal is an important moment in our effort to stop big corporations from controlling our media.

Stuck in the here and now, we can only judge Bibi Netanyahu as the nightmare man he plays on television. His latest drama is to push Washington to demand that the Iranians give up enrichment and most other elements of even a peaceful nuclear program. Call it chutzpah on steroids.

Anti-choice lawmakers' attacks today are just plain irresponsible. Cutting funding for Planned Parenthood and other health centers would leave at least five million women and men without access to basic health care. Where will these people go for critical services? We must make a big statement right now to call on the Senate to say no to this devastating cut. Help us send 50,000 emails to the Senate in the next seven days.

SHARE Friday, January 14, 2011 January's racist Elle cover
Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appears on the January cover of Elle magazine, but she's outraged by the image. Her skin appears far more pale than it is in real life. Elle claims to celebrate women of color by featuring them on magazine covers, but this is the second time in just six months that Elle has blatantly made women of color more white. (The last controversy surrounded Precious actress Gabourney Sidibe.)
