William John Cox authored the Policy Manual of the Los Angeles Police Department and the Role of the Police in America for a National Advisory Commission during the Nixon administration. As a public interest, pro bono, attorney, he filed a class action lawsuit in 1979 petitioning the Supreme Court to order a National Policy Referendum; he investigated and successfully sued a group of radical right-wing organizations in 1981 that denied the Holocaust; and he arranged in 1991 for the publication of the suppressed Dead Sea Scrolls. He promotes a peaceful political evolution at Voters Evolt! and at Voters Rights Amendment (USVRA); and he archives his articles at WilliamJohnCox.com. He is currently working on a fact-based political philosophy.

Police Shootings: Law, Policy, and Accountability Learning from police shootings, such as what occurred in El Cajon, can lead to enlightened solutions and a commitment by the People and their Police to achieve a peaceful outcome. A thoughtful response may be more difficult to arrive at, accept, and implement than the simplistic commentaries being tossed out during the 24-hour news cycle, but it is essential if peace is to prevail in the Nation's communities.

Fear of Crime and Things to Come The fear of crime strikes all who live with its dread, as well as those who are personally victimized. Fear keeps us from doing what we want to do; it causes us to distrust friends and to view strangers with prejudice; and it can trick us into trading freedom for a false sense of security.

A Voters' Rights Amendment to Unify Occupiers and Tea Partiers The most basic issue that Occupiers and Tea Partiers can readily agree upon is a Voters' Rights Amendment to the Constitution which insures that the future of the United States is decided by its voters rather than by the corporate and wealthy elite, which currently manipulates and controls the voter's representatives.

Economic Chaos and Political Survival No matter how deeply we ordinary citizens dig into our pockets, we cannot financially compete with the powerful special interests. No matter how well we organize, we cannot match the influence of the financial and political insiders. No matter how often we march and picket, they will always beat us through the side door into the corridors of power.

No Victors in the War on Dissent Among the wars currently being fought by the American government is one in which there can be no winners. The "war on terrorism" has spawned an internal "war on dissent" in which everyone loses.

The Scandal of Voter Suppression The scandal of voter suppression corrupts the core of representative democracy, and the quality and effectiveness of political representation is directly related to the percentage of voter participation. Unless representatives are selected by the greatest number and broadest range of voters possible, the processes of government will not reflect the true will of the People.

Making Smarter Cars Instead of Stupid Decisions With sales grinding to a halt and their credit ratings plummeting, the Big Three cannot borrow sufficient funds in the credit markets to survive. Like drunks on a freeway, they are racing down the fast lane without a seat belt, holding a bottle in one hand and flipping off the public with the other, daring everyone else to stop them before they crash.
