Consolidate, Strengthen the International Effort to Stop the Use of Rape as a Weapon of War Rape and other forms of sexual abuse have long been used as means of control, humiliation and dominance in wartime. These vicious acts have been perpetuated by systems that call for world peace over all else.

US-Mexico Drug Standstill: Decades of Failed Solutions and Time for a Change The U.S. should juridically strangulate black-market exchanges, by targeting social infrastructure between Mexican cartels and their domestic accomplices. There has to be a better concerted campaign on external and internal supply disruption to offer an alternative to the counternarcotic program in action, and to make better use of strained personnel. There needs to be a will to stop the drug flow on both sides of the border.

The NRA'S Big Mistake Opposing Assault Weapons Ban With the U.S. House passing the first assault weapons ban in almost three decades, the Senate has remained silent. President Clinton had done it before, and President Biden, then Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, pushed and enacted the assault weapons ban in 1994. Congress and state legislatures -- often more progressive than Congress--could undoubtedly do it in 2022.

Biden's Court Report Took Reform Nowhere, Congress Must Act to Avoid Clear Politics and Restore Support for the Court So far this year, as conservatives are funneling another 1.6 billion dollars to Leonard Leo on his conservative judicial nominee list campaign, simply electing Democrats is not enough. We must demand that our legislators push legislative efforts to reform the Supreme Court to promote basic fairness in the Supreme Court and the necessary justice for every American.

Weaponization of Nuclear Civilian Sites as Dangerous as Nuclear Bomb Threats, Diplomacy Needed Immediately Even though the power is back on, Europe's largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhya, which is surrounded by Russian troops, has lost all external power for safety systems twice in five days. Russian nearby shelling and troop ineptness around the plant are at fault. Despite international calls for demilitarization in these ardeas, it has not happened, and the region and the world are at risk.

Late Night Comics Undermine Suffering of Ukrainian and Russian People As comedians make jokes about Putin's regime, it is easy for individuals who live thousands of miles away from Ukraine and Russia to make ill-fitting jokes about the suffering both Russian and Ukrainian people face while dealing with thousands of deaths, decimated cities, millions of displacements citizens, military rapes, and tortures of real war.

Why is Harvard Report Getting All the Press When the White House, the Capitol, and Stone Mountain Were Built on Slavery Instead of focusing on Harvard's report, it is essential for our country to realize how racism and slavery were used to create the White House, Capitol, and Stone Mountain. The White House and Capitol could take a page from Monticello to work harder to honor Black individuals who built these historical sites and invite their descendants to events as honored guests.

Recent Congress, Media Sensationalizing UFO "Sightings" Defuses Real Work When "Objects" Likely Not Extraterrestrial The press ignores that UFOs are likely foreign spy satellites or asteroids of varied shapes. The "flashes of light" are likely sunlight reflections. The media and congress are pandering on the unproven instead of focusing on future missions to the moon and Mars. NASA and the press should quit pandering to UFO thrill seekers and consider UFOs as serious security threats to our country.

Don't Be Fooled--"Good Guy with Gun" Doesn't Work Despite Recent Outlier Although a lone gunman in Greenwood, Indiana, Elisjsha Dicken, was able to take down an active shooter on July 17, this instance of a "good guy with a gun" neutralizing a dangerous shooter is extremely rare. Comedian Jordan Klepper demonstrates in his comedy segment that the NRA's theory that a "good guy with a gun" could stop a potential active shooter is not only rare, but baseless, by the numbers.

Catholic Church Abuse of Pelosi's Religion Should be Condemned Though she is not the first and will likely not be the last politician to receive this treatment from the Church, Pelosi made sure to point out the hypocrisy of San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, saying that she is "opposed to" the death penalty, and "so is the church, but they take no actions against people who may not share their view." That is only the tip of the iceberg.

25th Anniversary of Britain's Silence as Prime Reason for Hong Kong Repressions Great Britain has been silent about its role in the suppression of Hong Kong by inaction despite its original agreement to assure freedoms from the creation of the independence treaty and since the UK ceded to the Communist takeover, and did nothing when it could have and still can. Hong Kong's freedom of speech and of the press is rapidly waning as mainland China asserts more and more control.

However, they learned important lessons and must do more to celebrate. We assume and hope that the reason for the Ukrainian-war suspension is only temporary and that peace will come soon. Move Afoot to Restore House Aging Committee with Pepper Legacy to Protect Seniors A reactivated House Aging Committee is pivotal. The legislation is authored by David Cicilline (D-RI) and championed by activist Herbert Weiss. It has 41 cosponsors. Whip Jim Clyburn, 80 (D-SC), often reminds people that the "wisdom of elders" complements the enthusiasm of youth -- we need both. Strong supporters include Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Doris Matsui (D-CA)--they lead the Democratic Caucus's sub-group on Aging.
