Instant Messaging OEN-style, US Drone Missiles and all.
HEX file starsat

Muhammad Khurshid , our regular Correspondent from Waziristan Instant messaged me the other day.  I asked him how he was doing-- you know, the regular chit-chat. Here's how the conversation went:

Muhammad:  Situation in tribal areas is very critical as US troops are advancing towards the border. There are fear that they may carry out a big attack.

me:  are you close to there?
Sent at 1:00 PM on Tuesday
Muhammad:  Yes I am very close. The other day a missile fired by US drone hit a house near my house. The missile narrowly missed my house.
Sent at 1:01 PM on Tuesday
Muhammad:  Terrorists have also increased their activities. Now they are preparing the tribesmen for the war. There is great confusion. Pakistani officials are still supporting terrorists.
Muhammad:  They are giving training to the youth. I still believe that some dreaded terrorists are hiding in the areas. They giving training of bomb making and then exploding them
me:  so, the taliban is teaching the local tribal youth to fight the US forces?

Muhammad:  Actually the terrorists are preparing Taliban and tribesmen for fighting against the US. Taliban is Pashto language word meaning Taliban.
Muhammad:  Hello, I think there is problem in the internet connection
 me:  glad you're back.
How do you US forces are advancing to border?
how do you know?

Muhammad:  Pakistani media is reporting that the troops are poised for a big attack on tribal areas
I am also seeing the US drones hovering over the areas
Sent at 9:54 AM on Wednesday
Muhammad:  Hi Sir, how are you
Last night there was some problem in my connection
me:  Great. Getting ready to leave to go see the Dalai Lama speak live in Philadelphia, about an hour away.
Muhammad:  Great congratulation, I think it will be a great event
me:  I agree. He and NElson Mandela are the two men I respect most in the world.
Sent at 10:11 AM on Wednesday
Muhammad:  You are absolutelyy right. They are really great men. But you have also introduced a new trend in journalism
Sent at 10:13 AM on Wednesday
Muhammad:  you have brought journalism to the gross root. I think opednews has played a big role in war on terror. The opednews will win this war on terror.
Sent at 10:14 AM on Wednesday
me:  That's giving a lot of credit, but we try to do our part. I wish we could get the word out more to other nations. We have writers from Burma, Nepal, India, Congo, Korea, but wish we had them from a lot more places where the media are restricted. We ARE making progress though.
Muhammad:  My good wishes and prayers are with you
Sent at 10:17 AM on Wednesday
Muhammad:  Freedom of journalism will be a defeat to terrorism
me:  Thanks. Running out the door. I am usually here at this time. Let's do this again
 Muhammad Ok bye
Sent at 10:20 AM on Wednesday
 Muhammad Hi Sir
 me:  hi
I'm transcribing some of the talk by the Dalai Lama. He said some good things about George Bush--
"I have great respect for, in fact, I love President Bush. He is very frank, very straightforward. His intentions are good, his policy and some of his method becomes unrealistic because of lack of understanding reality."
how are things in Bajaur province?
Sent at 11:42 AM on Thursday
Muhammad:  I think there is problem in internet connection. I think he is right
Actually the information being given to Bush on which he is acting is wrong.
At least we can guide him on tribal areas if Bush starts reading opednews.com
Sent at 11:49 AM on Thursday
Muhammad:  I am sorry there was problem in the internet connection. Nowadays there is severe power breakdown in Peshawar.

I've also poasted this as a diary, if you want to comment, here: Instant Messaging OEN-style, US Drone Missiles and all.

I went to see the Dalai Lama on Wednesday.
There were about 2000 people in the facility when he walked in. I was a good 50 yards away, on an upper tier, but still, when he walked in, I was surprised to find myself experiencing a frisson-- a chill up the back of my neck. Along with Nelson Mandela, he's one of my heroes. His message was that we are making progress, moving towards peace, that we need outer and INNER disarmament-- that inner disarmament means finding compassion and acting with compassion, even towards our enemies.

This is a tough one. I'm going to work on it here, on OpEdNEws, with trolls and right wing creeps. No, no. I said that compassionately. Look, I can be compassionate and still see them as the destructive, unconscious, sleeping, deluded fools that they are-- lotus flowers that are yet to open. I don't know if I can do it with Bush or Cheney. But the Dalai Lama can. I wrote about his take on Bush, here

Dalai Lama: "President Bush... Lack(s) Understanding of Reality"

On Rob Kall Radio Next Week: Riane Eisler

This week, I didn't have big names on the show (you can access past shows at http://www.whiterosesociety.org/OpEdNews.html) but we covered some very important issues and information. Next, we have a name you should recognize. If not, check her out. She's an iconic visionary I can't wait to interview.

Trashing Obama's Overseas Trip
First they chastise Obama for not going to Iraq or overseas. So, he plans it and they trash him for doing it.

Gov. Pawlenty rips Obama for going to Europe with plan of having rallies and compares McCain's trip to Columbia, where he met, sedately, with leaders. What a pile of doo doo. McCain couldn't pull crowds. McCain represents the continuation of the Bush Legacy, the legacy of the most hated man in the history of the human race.

Obama will be going to Europe facing, I predict, huge crowds-- massive, tens of thousands of people praying that the idiots in the US will get it right this time. The crowds will be so large, they will make history as the largest ever to turn out to greet a presidential candidate.

So, of course, the McCain people try to paint his success as something inappropriate, something political. Well what do you think Obama's engaged in, if not political work, for the months to come. Well, Pawlenty is pandering to those sleeping turnips the Dalai Lama wants us to be compassionate towards. It is so damn hard. I just want to yell at them. Wake the hell up already, you fools!! Of course, when the massive crowds do turn out to greet Obama, McCain's people will spin that too as something negative.

And to my friends who say there's no difference between Obama and MCCain, I can only say that you are as deluded as those who love Bush, and I'm not talking about loving Bush the way the Dalai Lama does

OpEdNEws Needs Editors
We need editors who can help with editing articles in the queue and adding links to articles we want our readers to read. And we need community building volunteers to help with posting comments to articles. If you have even an hour a week, we can use your help.

Can OpEdNews Survive the Election Season and the Downturn in the Economy
With so many candidates and parties and organizations asking for contributions, OEN is facing some very tough economic times. Member/reader contributions are dramatically down. I know it is tough to sort out where to contribute and that economic times are tough. But if YOU don't include OpEdNews in your priorities, if you don't decide that we're worth supporting, we may not be around next year. That's not exageration or hysteria. We need to raise enough funds to pay our bills. We need to raise those funds from you our readers. So, please, if you think we're doing a great job, if you look forward to reading what we deliver and you believe we're doing important work, send something in. Click on the donate link and send in $5 or $500, whatever you can afford. We used to see one or two $500 contributions a month, and $1000, here and there, but times are tough and they are far and fewer between. So we need to make up for not seeing them with more smaller donations. Please kick in what you can.
Donate here to OpEdNews.com Today

Seriously. This is a key month. Last month was the worse in a long time. We need to recover and that depends upon YOU.
