Steven Reisner, Ph.D. is President of Psychologists for Social Responsibility and is a founding member of the Coalition for an Ethical Psychology. Dr. Reisner is a psychologist and activist, dedicated to the ethical use of psychological knowledge and wisdom to change the world for the better. He has been a consultant on the treatment of trauma and torture worldwide, most recently in Turkey, Haiti and Ethiopia, where he trained clinicians to address the psychological challenges faced by people suffering from political violence, natural disaster and forced emigration. On September 11th, 2001, he helped create the Family Resource Center at St. Vincent's Hospital in downtown Manhattan. Dr. Reisner has been active in combating torture in all its forms, and is particularly involved in working to keep health professionals from participating in or sanctioning abusive interrogation methods. By day, Dr. Reisner is a psychoanalyst and couple's therapist in private practice in New York City.
