Leon Oboler is a social action organizer, currently semi-retired on Social Security Disability. While concerned about the many problems in the world, he has been focussing his energies on global corporatization, international and national civil rights and justice issues, and the environment. As a pragmatist, he's used whatever tools will get the job done -- from lobbying and the electoral process to street theater, demonstrations and direct action.

Until retirement, he was the state organizer for the PA Fair Trade Coalition (including organizing our 40+ group to the FTAA demonstrations in Miami 2003). The only North American to be part of the 500 person Inter-Continental Caravan that bused 10,000km throughout Europe in the summer of 1999 raising consciousness about the evils of corporate globalization, he organized the Philadelphia area demonstration coinciding with the WTO demonstrations in Seattle. One of the founders of the Center for Progressive Political Communication, he was also one of the principle organizers for the Unity 2000 large-scale demonstration before the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia.
He's been a Democratic candidate for local political office in PA, and has worked on a number of local, state and federal political campaigns (in Idaho, Ohio, and PA), including serving as campaign manager for a Green Party/Democratic Party candidate for PA State Legislature.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the PA Citizens Action Network and continues to be a member of the Operating Committee of the Greater Philadelphia Democratic Socialists of America.
