During his 40 subsequent years as a journalist, he authored or co-authored more than 790 articles on aging, health care and medical issues.

Weiss’s columns regularly appear in newspapers throughout Rhode Island and news blogs. He writes a weekly “Age Beat” commentary covering issues that impact America’s baby boomers and seniors, which is published in the Pawtucket Times and Woonsocket Call.

His journalistic work has been recognized with the American College of Health Care Administrator’s 1994 and 1999 National Journalism Awards, the 1998 Distinguished Alumnus award from the Department of Applied Gerontology at the University of North Texas in 1998, and the AARP Rhode Island’s 2004 Vision Award.

In 2016, he published Taking Charge: Collected Stories on Aging Boldly, a compilation of 79 of his newspaper commentaries.

Bipartisan Support Needed to Reestablishing House Aging Committee This article details a April 25th meeting, bringing five former staff of the House Aging and Rules Committee. They gave firsthand accounts to Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) staff as to why the bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus should endorse Rep. Seth Magaziner's H. Res. 10, reestablishing the House Aging Committee. National Aging Groups and RI aging advocates participated to show support for this resolution.

Shortage of Direct Care professionals a national concern On April 16, 2024, Chairman Bob Casey of the U.S. Special Committee on Aging (D-PA) touted his new legislative proposal, S. 4120, that would ensure that direct care professionals have a sustainable, lifelong career by providing substantial new funding to support these workers in the long-term-care industry, from nursing homes to home care, to assisted living facilities. It also takes a look at worker shortage in RI.

Problem Solvers Caucus may be key to re-establishing Committee on Aging RI Congressman David Cicilline is posed to reintroduce a resolution for the fifth time to reestablish the House Select Committee on Aging, eliminated in 1993 because of budget cuts. The Op Ed details why this investigative committee is needed to spotlight relevant issues for Congress to address and legislate bipartisan solutions. It calls for the House Problem Solvers Caucus to endorse Cicilline's resolution when introduced.
